"There is NO way that German would have the wheels to take down Webb in a "real" race. You can quote me on that."

How do you define a "real race"? No pacers? If so, those are the races that Webb has proven he doesn't know how to run.

is no one going to comment on the flatness of the track??? i was waiting to see webb tear out of his ankles on the turns...not taking anything away from the 356 that was run by german, but that was on a world class banked indoor track with a beautifully set up pace

just mull that over

Anonymous Coward:

I'm as big a Webb fan as anyone else, but German has not been training for months, nor specifically for indoor track. German, first of all, took about four weeks off after XC Nationals to let his Achilles heal. Secondly, German--while not redshirting this indoor season--is more focused on USA XC than he is on indoor track. He said both of these in the interview held with Flotrack.

German has been training for months specifically for indoor track. Webb has had off and on training still shooting for outdoor track. It would't even be a contest between webb and fernandez when they were both race fit. That's ridiculout

I agree that German ran a faster race then Webb, but German worked for that.
Webb cruised and looked controlled and easy running that mile.
There is NO way that German would have the wheels to take down Webb in a "real" race. You can quote me on that.

4:04? I wish I even came close to that! I'm still stuck in the glory days of high school when I won the regionals meet with a 4:28 mile. If I had the American record, I would sit back and revel in the glory forever.

This website is great for bringing new and upcoming runners into the spot light. All the Webb hate though needs to stop. He is the ONLY male U.S. distance runner that is competitive on the world scene, and simply on a different level than... anybody presently in college. 1:43-27:30 range is unbeatable in the U.S. Can't wait to see all the backlash to this comment with talk of Hall, or Ritz, or whoever... What needs to be remembered is that Webb could race them at their distance (on the track) and beat them. Something none of them could do. How many U.S. 1500m titles does Webb have? How many other guys have been that good over the past 8 years?

Alright, these are obviously just training runs for Webb. He looked really easy in both of these races. In the 800 he let Moise get way ahead. It's pretty obvious if you just look at how relaxed he is. And especially in the mile he was just striding out through the whole race. You should probably watch the video again before you decide to rip on Webb and act like a jackass.
