German fernandez is already here! To run a 3;56 mile in january is pretty phenomenal, also considering he is still a teenager.I hope he runs over in europe, and gets some world class experience under his belt.I predict that he will run 3;51 before the year is out.If he runs certain times this year, then it is time for him to go to the next level. One of the main problems with american distance runners is running against competition that is sub par if you are ready for world class competition.Back in the day when Alberto Salzar, and other american collegiates ran, they were running against world class runners like Henry Rono. Now its not as many world class runners running in college. We have to start treating our special runners[German Fernandez,Galen Rupp]like the world class runners they are that way they will be mentally prepared to be profesional runners.

I am expecting a HUGE come back by webb.....

He has nothing to be excited about right now so he is humble in the interview. He is in complete work mode. A good amount of the expectations are off him, so now its just him vs the clock. His body had a chance to repair itself. His new muscle will eventually decrease but right now his strength is getting him back to square one. Big things in Summer 2009, mark my words!

Alan webbs whole career has been misguided. He never needed to run a year of college after running a 353 mile in high school. He was already tfaster than any american that year at the ripe old age of 18[lol].The year before the olympics he ran a 1;43 800 and a 3;46 mile. The year of the olympics,Alans coach overtrained him.Alan may or may not have reached his peak, but if he has a chance to improve, now is the time, while he is still young.

Depressed? A tidge bummed maybe--seemed more like a dud interview in an office -- not an exciting post-race talk immediately after. Seemed like what you'd expect in a low-key internet interview.

I'm not gonna lie. I love this guy.. I just know everyone that is talking crap will be back on his bandwagon later. I'm just glad that he figured out that he needs to race to stay where he needs to be. He would of made the team if the meet was in Late July. He just wasn't race ready.

He just doesn't look like he enjoys running anymore

Man, I feel for this guy. I don't know what really goes on inside his head, but it's obviously hard to run so well sometimes and not so well other times. I just hope he knows there're a lot of people rooting for him. I know he'll be at his best again, and when he is, he'll have a legitimate shot at a gold medal.
Best of luck to you, Alan, and remember you have a lot of fans cheering for you.

He wants to race more...awesome
He wants some wins under the belt...great

He accomplishes that by showing up to a weak meet where more than half the field ran 4:30 or slower...hmmm. People say his race tactics are unhoned...I beg to differ, he wins before he's on the track because his tactics landed him in this race.

so after American's Greatest Miler fails to make the Olympic Team at his prime, all he'd change out of a disaster of a season would be to race more? every time he stepped on the line last year it was terrible compared to what he wanted to do. and then to hear things are only slowing getting better, it's hard to be excited about this. Sure I know his goals are August, but when you see 18-20 year old kids running 356, 357, 750's, 1344's its tough to feel excited for webb. Heck even willis and lagat are rolling a little right now. I hope he has a great year, but he still has that depressed tone to him, and seems to be lacking confidence
