Great Interview and Ryan Shay is definitely a Legend! He is definitely looking down on all of us runners and cheering us on no matter what the race. That is a great 3000 race in his honor every year and that was excellent to have Joe Shay start the race. Great Notre Dame fight song going off in the middle of the interview too!

I hear what you are saying about the flaws of the interview. We did not have a lot of time to do this since Joe was firing the gun for the Shay 3k. Also, we were in the lobby of the athletic center, and people were coming and going.

I do enjoy bringing you depth in interviews on Flotrack. Saturday was not the time and place for it for this interview. No disrepect was meant to Joe Shay. We were just in the middle of the meet, and we had a quick chance to talk about the race in his son's honor.
I hope viewers understand.

I thought the interview could have been a lot better. No breathing room between the questions. Even his tone of voice was insensitive.

I thought the interview was good. There's a fine line between going too deep into the subject while tons of people walking around in the middle of a hall way and keeping the thoughts flowing. I think the atmosphere may have led to the feeling of it being a little rushed.

As for pre-written questions, if you've seen him do other interviews, he doesn't need a notepad. A walking encyclopedia is a better description.
None the less, I enjoyed hearing Joe's thoughts, too. A very sentimental time for the family and to share it with so many young athletes is truly something special. Best of luck to the Shay's in '09.

I'm sorry but the interviewer needs to take more time and interest in what the response was to his last question before saying, "Right, next..." This is very deep stuff here, and the interviewer seems only interested in asking pre-written questions and not letting responses allow for a much more deep interview.

I'm glad Joe gave the interview, and his words were great to hear.
