- See Less - Alan Webb jumped into the national scene in high school with his success at the Footlocker National Cross Country Championships and more notably with his success in the mile. He smashed Jim Ryun's HSR of 3:55.3 at the Prefontaine Classic with a time of 3:53.43. Webb is also the first high schooler ever to run a sub 4:00 mile indoors.
After a year of running at the University of Michigan, Webb turned pro and started running for Nike under high school coach, Scott Raczko. He broke the American Record in the Two Mile at Nike Prefontaine Classic in 2005 in 8:11.48. Webb has since broke Steve Scott's American Mile Record (3:47.69) in Brasschaat, Belgium in a time of 3:46.91 and has also racked up personal bests of 1:43.84 in the 800m and 3:30.54 in the 1500m.

Lets face it, you're an idiot.
Do you not listen to what he says? He said the past couple races weren't very good. He knows exactly how good or bad he is doing. All of you who make all these claims have no basis for them.
OMG you morons... what did Alan Webb run his freshman year of college for the 10k? What is his 10K Personal Record, then go look up what Galen Rupp's Personal Record is.

i think that people understand that webb has talent, but what they are arguing is that he lacks consistency. webb hasnt had more than one good year yet. one year he will be outstanding, the next he will not. also, until he starts doing better in championship events, webb will always be looked at as a time trialer and the one who choked in big events. it is unfortunate though, because webb really does have potential. i think people need to stop kissing this guys butt when he just ran a 3:45 and im sorry, but that will not make it out of the heats in a world championship event. i mean, we have quite a few college guys that can run that time or faster. he also ran over 4-min several times this indoor season, which for a guy of his caliber should be sub-par. i dont think we should degrade webb, just dont kiss his butt and tell him what he needs to hear. i think that webb needs to get serious about his training before outdoor and stop racing scared. its time that he shows us what he is all about. if i recall correctly, he had a no so good indoor season 2 years ago and then ended up running fantastic outdoors. this may be the year.
You little ... Did you not hear how he has been injured and training for outdoor. This is his offseason, just racing to keep up the momentum and help obtain more out of his training. For all we know he could be towing the line 70% possibly lower.
Why shouldn't we shower the american record holder in praises? Sure he "choked" in a couple championship style races, he has also succeeded in championship style races but we seem to only remember the one(s) that he choked in.
no one is saying he has been consistant but he has potential. what im saying is dont root for him to fail. if he succeeds it will be big because of his potential.
yoni,

As much potential as webb has to be great, he just seems like such a mental mess. I don't pretend to be an expert, but possibly he just needs to stop being pampered by his coach. It seems like he can do more or less whatever he wants with his coach and he's not getting pushed hard enough.
who are you people and why do you hate webb so much. anyone whos cares about distance running should want alan webb to be good. he has the talent if he trains hard and smartly and learns how to race on a big stage he could do something amazing. true he has choked but he has also run a 3:53 mile in high school and a 3:46 in 2007, stop hating on him and give him some support. if he runs fast its good for all american distance running.
He should not move up, he has range, but he is 20+ seconds behind elite Africans in the 5k. He will never be a world beater in the 5k the way he can be in the mile.
He has already run 3:46, and he isn't to old to run faster equivalents. With 1:43 800m speed, he would be much more successful moving down then he would be moving up. At least a 1:43 is competitive on the world scene, unlike the 13 and change he runs in the 5k.
i dont get why some people want him to move up. maybe he wants to get a medal at the world stage in the 1500. you act like he's already accomplished everything there is to accomplish in the 1500/mile
Someone else posted on it before. #1 he's already our american record holder #2 he's already an olympian in the event. #3 he's shown before that he is capable of running solid longer track events
why's he still running the mile? Move on up to the 5k or 10k
this is supposed to be the guy who "saves U.S distance running" especially in the mile. psht, step aside, choker. Ulrey and German are the new Kings!!!
lets face it, his career is over

and if someone says that he suck- let me know when you run 3:46 for the mile...
Alan, just be patient and stay healthy. If you do that, you'll be plenty fast by summer.
