You should keep running. I am a fan not because you are the fastest runner. Everyone knows that there are others who are faster. I'm not putting you down. I and many others are fans of yours because you have a workhorse ethic and blue collar attitude that inspires us all to be like you. You have done what a lot of us would only desire to dream of doing and you inspire us all. A bad race can put you down forever, or it can challenge you to learn from it and move on. If you run, you run with a dream. LOL.

Dont let a bad race bum you out. I'm 64 and have been running for 51 years. I've had a lot of bad races and was ready to quit zillions of times. Dont do it. You have plenty of great races ahead of you. Put your head down and forge ahead. Boston is an aberration due to the odd course and the usually heavy winds, especially in the last half. You just had a lot of bad luck. Keep going.

Dude. PLEASE don't hang up the shoes. Like it or not, you carry the weight of the everyman on your shoulders. Guys like Hall and Ritz... sure, to the outside world, that's where the money is... but what _runner_ can relate to that?! You are an inspiration to those of us who didn't start out at the top. To those of us who have nothing to stand on but sheer determination and hard work. To those of us who will NEVER be the best. This might sound like a backhanded compliment and, who knows, it might be. But you gotta know that your contributions to the universe of running are VERY VERY VERY important, and that a LARGE population of runners would feel a great vacuum without the 'stache at the helm. Keep on truckin.

Hang in there, Brian. Many would take your 2:16 performance in a heartbeat. An off-day is human, and you still have great performances to come with the marathon and half-marathon distance. Mentioning mileage from the video on the track workout (8 x 1K at 4:40/mile pace) 155 peak mileage week is awesome ! Motivation ? Well, how about $150K for winning or $40K for 3rd place (like Ryan Hall earned). That $$ could help with dental school and other expenses. Anyway, best wishes to you. Continue to hang tough and always keep doing a great marathon.

You are amazing man. It's more fun being the #2 American than an average working dude. Trust me. You are living the dream. That's why all these people are out there screaming on the course for you. Next time you are looking for a possitive just look at all the people you have inspired along the way. Hope to see you back in the fall!

Honesty Is Good   April 20 at 8:24pm
yes honesty is good, but don't be so rough on yourself....learn from what happened and you'll be better able to repair your wounded ego. We all get wounded egos sometimes, but dwelling on the wounding aspect is worthless.

DUDE!!!   April 20 at 7:36pm
COME ON! You rock! There are always ups and downs.... Its just tough cuz you can't do a marathon every couple of weeks!

I was in 2:20 shape in 2006 and improving when I got hurt. A nerve issue made it almost impossible to walk at times! BUT, I ran (limping) every day! So, take it from me, the bad days can be a lot worse! Cherish the great ones! I am so glad I never gave up. I want to line up with you at the trials in 2012! I know I will never be a contender for the team, but it's a huge honor just to toe the line.
You got the tools! Just keep pluggin away! The American running community really respects and admires you!
