At the 2007 Olympic Trials – Men’s Marathon, Hall tamed what had been thought of as a slow and very difficult course, breaking the Olympic Trials record with his winning time of 2:09:02. He posted the second-fastest marathon time ever by an American of 2:06.17 from his fifth place finish at the 2008 London Marathon. Hall showed signs of becoming a future Olympic marathoner when he made his marathon debut in style, finishing seventh in April at the 2007 Flora London Marathon in 2:08:24. Hall's time was the fastest ever debut marathon for an American man by 1:16.Hall has gone from high school prodigy to national record holder in the span of just a few years. Hall set a U.S. record and earned a national title on January 14, 2007, when he won the men’s U.S. Half Marathon National Championship in 59 minutes 43 seconds becoming the first American to break the one-hour barrier at that distance. His performance bettered the previous American record by Mark Curp that had stood for 21 years by 1:12, and makes him the 13th fastest performer in the world at the half marathon distance. Hall won his first major cross country title when he captured the men’s long course national crown at the 2006 USA Cross Country Championships at historic Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx, N.Y. Hall won going away with a 27-second margin over the rest of the field. "It was probably the most fun race of my life," said Hall. "It's my first 12k. I thought that I would make a move and see who would go, and maybe if I get a gap, then keep going.” Hall was the fastest American in the long course race at the 2006 World Cross Country Championships in Japan, placing 43rd. Also in 2006 Hall set an American record in the 20 km of 57:54 on October 8 at the IAAF World Road Running Championships in Debrecen, Hungary. Hall enjoyed a strong season in 2005 that included winning the NCAA Outdoor 5,000m title, placing third at the USA Outdoor Championships, where he set a new personal best of 13:16.03, and competing at his first World Outdoor Championships. As a prep standout, Hall competed at the Peregrine Systems U.S. Open at Stanford in the 1500 meters where he ran 3:42.70, the third fastest high school performance ever for the metric mile ... California state champion in the 1600 meters during his senior season with a state record time of 4:02 ... had the #2 high school time in the U.S. in the 1600 meters at 4:00.52 ... The National Scholastic mile champion in his junior season at 4:06 ... Also won the state title during his junior season in the two-mile at 8:55.03 ...the California state cross country champion during his junior and senior seasons at Big Bear High School ... Finished third at the Footlocker Nationals in Orlando during his senior season. Wife Sara Bei-Hall is also a competitive runner, who placed 26th in the 4 km race at the 2006 World Cross Country Championships. The Halls are active with charitable groups such as Team World Vision. They worked on a campaign in 2008 entitled, “More Precious than Gold,” that raised nearly a million dollars to help bring clean water wells and irrigation systems to poor communities in Zambia.
His Stride is impressive, but agree his arms just make me think he looks like a gorilla. I mean, Snells arms went low but not THAT low! Hes almost scraping his knuckles on the pavement!
Issaac Fall,Getting Annoying, and others are proof of why our marathon group has strick rules on long runs of no discussion of politics or religion. No one wins and someone looks stupid or is offended. If Josh Cox is still sponsored by Powerbar I may never eat another. Ryan Hall seems to be a class act and an amazing runner that could easily be talked into moving into a cult like group and never race again. Lets hope not. Sorry Brian Sell had a tough Boston, now I can relate to him and his group of fans.Regardless, anyone who can run sub 2:20 is incredible gifted.
Ryan you can take comfort in knowing you have helped me to find god. Thank you so much. Well done in Boston, i hope you found what you were looking for.
Haha, don't put words in his mouth now, I know you're excited and all but leave the old "hell fear tactics" out of it.
Hall looks extremely fit, I think his form looks pretty damn flawless. Great video. He is not arrogant or pushy about his faith, and if it makes him a better runner then more power to him.
You all share a common passion, stop arguing over an internet video. Ryan Hall is a machine. He put this video up for runners to enjoy, not fight over.
Hmm... April 15 at 8:06pm
Hall's stride is just amazing. He doesnt seem to put enough arm movement though. just little bit more on the arms to get less of the shoulders swinging. and it ends up with more forward force not side to side running partially.
says the random guy on forum. LOL half of these "attack" comments are just ignorance and jealousy. I don't see any random guys here ripping of 4:20 miles one after another and posting it for us to see and critique.... Who cares about Halls stride, form, anything, he's the one out there running Boston not some guy hiding behind a fake screen name on a video message board.
for example this guy:
"Roberto (Salazar?)
runs like a freaking caveman. looks like his fitness has diminished in my opinion and I coach 2:05 guys"
nice comment you nobody. I'm sure you've got hundreds of guys doing this exact same workout, and I'm sure you hold the american record in the half marathon too, nice one buddy. No really, good job.

If Science isn't.
God doesn't "promise" you a win, he uses certain situations so that you can learn and grow in Christ. The goal of God isn't so that Ryan Hall wins everytime, but so that Ryan will use the gifts God has given him to praise his name.
And to those criticizing Ryan Hall, we're taught about all of Darwin's theories and it's shoved down our throats in a situation where we can't change anything. Why get upset when someone says something about God in a video that you have total control over if you want to see it or not.
Ryan is a great example of being an abassador for Christ (2 Cor 5:17-21). He is using his platform to exalt God and share the truth with the world. He is wonderful example. I exhort every follower of Jesus to always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks us for a reason for the hope that we have (1 Pet 3:15). Good luck Ryan!
"...are those moments when i feel god running in me. Its hard to articulate, but when you experience it, you know it. Those moments that are typically effortful are now effortless, the thoughts in your head melt away, and all that's left is joy, delight and the satisfying sensation of performing outside of yourself".
love it, great quote, even if you aren't very religious
People who say they are professional athletes in order to inspire others always seem to be convincing themselves of that claim as much as the skeptical listener. The fairy tale of Jesus is not about inspiring people, its about tearing down the establishment of an oppressive society and rebuilding it as an egalitarian utopia. Care for the sick; feed the hungry, befriend the friendless. Those are Christian values. Masking personal pursuit and achievement (virtuous qualities in themselves) behind the guise of inspiring others in order to fit a rigid, antiquated set of social norms perverts the intent of the Eqyptian sun-god myths from which the Jewish rendition sprung.
Nothing is wrong with selfish ambition and an innate drive to succeed and achieve. But that is what people loved about a runner like Pre. He run to win for himself, in pursuit of glory and graspin his potential. And he made no apologies for it.
Awesome video! Looks like Ryan is in AMAZING shape...he also looked comfortbale and relaxed as well...all i can say is wow and I think he's gonna surprise people at Boston. I mean 38:06 for an 8 mile tempo and 42 seconds for 300m hill repeats and last 2 miles in 9:15...ya he's def. in shape
annoying to look at this wall and see all the judgement and speculation. first off, you can't have a video about ryan's running and not mention his spirituality, because that is who he is (I'm agnostic, btw). He isn't trying to get anyone to convert, he's just being himself. anyone who says to leave that part out because this is a running website is asking for a video about ryan that doesn't show who he is. Second, "Hall doesn't have 10% of the spirituality it takes to be world class in the marathon despite his facade of enlightenment??" what?? who are you to judge people's spirituality in terms of percent? are you kidding?? lastly enough of this crap about how hes gonna tank at boston or how hes gonna do great, just let the man run! go ryan, you're the man and i hope you run great!

I respect Hall's running ability and I don't mind discussion of one's motivation within a certain context, but geez, every video Hall and Cox put out, no matter that the forum is about RUNNING, not religion or politics, has to follow the christian conversion dictate to witness at every opportunity. If they want to do that...awesome for them...but don't expect some of us to not respond. Let's get back to running.

Hall needs to learn to move his arms. Look at Kibet, Haile, Tergat, note the smooth relaxed arms moviing gracefully above the chest. Americans don't move their arms enough and Hall doesn't have 10% of the spirituality it takes to be world class in the marathon despite his facade of enlightenment. Hall 2:08 and change at boston. Never will win a medal or win a major marathon. In fact, probably will never beat ritz head to head again.
Love Hall, but I'd be better for the sport if he was out in the clubs till 5am like Bolt grinding on girls booties, instead of talking about tribal dancer in the north african dessert and hearing cox yell "praise him for the gift ry." I just wish he was brash, y, and ignorant that's all, I mean that is the American way, no? And isnt that why anyone still cares about Pre
Gee, why is everyone not likeing this! I think that it's awesome, that he's a devoted Christian, and that he believes in our Lord Jesus Christ! He's just telling everyone who made them, and who is the one and only God. That's all he's doing. He also wants to convert people, because he doesn't want them to burn in hell! He also knows that Jesus is the only reason why were here, and our job is to share the gospel with those who don't know, or believe in God! What he's pretty much saying is, Jesus is the only reason why he runs, and I RESPECT that. I think that that's awesome! And I hope that maybe one day I'll be a proffesional runner, and do what he's doing. Converting people through his running. Anyways, JESUS ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm an agnositc, yet I really appreciate very much listening to Ryan's spiritual outlook, which is very much a part of his running. Running is not just the physical (intervals, workouts effort etc...). There's also the mental approach. Listening to Ryan, he's not pushing anyone to convert. I don't feel obligated to believe exactly what Ryan believes. But, I still can learn from his spirituallity. Don't feel annoyed. Open up; it doesn't hurt anyone to just listen.
To me, when he discusses his Christianity during his workouts, it's the same as a runner talking about how two a days help them run better. It's part of Ryan's training and he is sharing his training with us. Thanks Ryan and Josh. Can't wait until the next one.
scott you are a smart guy! why does it matter to you what another man does as long as he doesnt have a gun to your head! so any man or women who lays his soul on the line for something beside what you or anyone else thinks! You must give them their RESPECT! so i say this with respect to you, thank you for your comments even if they suck! lamo!

Can we please watch a video where a runner talks about his faith without someone else being offended and attacks the runner for supplying such a great running video. I have an idea for the offended atheists. If there is a Ryan Hall video or any other runner who is a Christian (which there are more of than not) don't watch it.
good job on the video editing
Where can I get the amazing back ground music of this video? Great job Ryan. You are amazing.
artist: Dj Wizard

He needs a solid PR agent.
He should just let his numbers speak for themselves-
USA Sweep Boston Men's and Woman's!
