I watched Steve get beat at Texas Relays twice. I'm 72 years old and I followed him just like all of us do to day. The guy in his time was a beast and it was great to see such talent.

I know California has good results for there state meet but those guys dont race in 100 degree weather with the humidty at 100% here in texas it is much different than the west cost I ran for Chico State and have all my PR's there. All im sayin is its much differnt running in Texas if you look at Prefontan he lost every time he came to Texas to run at UT he could not fathem the heat that Texas gives out in the 5000 meters.
Lost everytime he came to Texas? Which Prefontaine have you been following?

1A or 5A track is a mentally challenging sport. That kids finish was very impressive. Not to say that Stinson was not impressive, but the kid in the 2A had an outstanding finish.

that kid in 2A blowing the field away with 250 to go in the 800M was easily a more impresive kick. I heard had been a sprinter before he realized he could handle the 800m. He showed it in the last 200m.

It is also helpful to have 3 tough SOB's fighting it out. Those guys were great! Either one of those guys deserved to win for the effort they put in that race!
Congrats to them!

As a professional distance runner and coach, its much harder to run in this heat than in California where its always 75 and party cloudy... I should know all of my PR's are there for those three guys to break 9 is great to say least! And as a coach of Paul Snyder I know he could have broken 9 in good weather I aslo coached Lorin Wilson and Scott Macpherson

This is the state meet?? Where the heck is everyone, there is nobody in the stadium. I guess Football rules in Texas?
The 3200 does not get much love at the state meet. It is at 8AM the rest of the 5A started at 6PM that night and there was 15-20k in the stands for that.

Kick of the Week (June 8)

Kick of the Week this week comes from the Texas State Championship 5A 3200 meter final. Reed Connor thought he only had to hold off Justin Webb for the title, but they forgot about Parker Stinson! Stinson sneaks up with about 75 to go and this is how it went down....

Here is Parker's post-race interview where he claims Texas is the best track and field state.
