Well, Golden Bear below has hit the nail right on the head. She's dating Mike Coe. That's an understatement. So she's officially off the Stanford Roster. NCAA's rules concerning her move to Cal Berkeley include one year of ineligibility, so she's on vacation for a year. This is apparently a serious relationship to cause a move and a year off! I wish them the best of luck. It's not like two runners never paired up before. Ryan Hall and Sarah, Kara Goucher & Adam, etc, etc. There are some little intricacies involved if she runs this year. She can't do it on scholarship, she needs to be released by Stanford (I'm sure they're a little pissed and may not). On the bright side with a runner of her caliber, Cal will likely carry her beyond a 4-year degree if she still has some eligibility left. Let's face it. She's one in a gazillion!

Great to hear that she knows that each race comes with its own demands for personal conditioning..........I like how she catches her mental confusion so she becomes more aware of the pitfalls of our own inner mental insecurities. She's a runner to watch. Thanks.

Would love to see this girl get the AJR in the 5k, so that Stanford could have both the male and female AJR holders in the event.

She's 100% valley girl, and I say that in the nicest way. There are 37,000,000 people in California. As you travel through some area high schools this is normal as rain. I really enjoyed her writing on the Stanford site, describing her first year experiences at the University. She's a super-smart girl.
Here's how it was explained to me to pronounce her name. Laurynne (like Maureen) Shay-te-la. It was embarrassing at the State Meet in her nationally famous 9:52 race against Jordan to here her name so badly mispronounced through the entire race. I hope I'm close.

Laurynne Chetelat frosh year at Stanford

Stanford's top frosh, Laurynne Chetelat, talks about the transition into college, letting go up high school ways, and how to compete in the NCAA as a young athlete. Laurynne is one of only three girls to break 10:00 in the 3200 in high school (did it last year with Jordan Hasay when both ran 9:52). She is now the second fastest Junior American in the 5k at 15:43 from the Stanford Invite earlier this season.
