I think Alberto was about to say that Bob told him to take it slow when adding on the miles over the years, the old to much to soon way of coaching. Many great runners got burned out and over worked at a young age and then you never see them run again. This is a big part of what has been wrong in the past with american running, things seems to be on the correct path for the future. Some great running in the past couple of years shows this to be true.

I have a feeling the Phil Knight interruption was planned. Was Phil listening in the background and didn't want Alberto to tell the advice?

Mark & Ryan,
Can you guys make a point to follow up and get the question answered about what Bobby K had to say for advice on Galen at an early age? We're talking about perhaps the greatest to date distance runner in the US giving important advice that has helped lead to the development of perhaps the new best US distance runner. This is as important as it gets to distance runners, both coaches and athletes.

Thanks!

Alberto And Rupp?   June 19 at 12:56pm
How in the world does the NCAA allow Alberto be Rupps coach when he isn't the coach for UO? There has to be some loop hole in the rules for that to happen right; couldn't this be considered as participating as a professional athlete due to having a personal coach?

If anyone has a legitimate answer, I'd like to know.

If you saw the races that Galen ran you would agree that this was just a workout and a way for him to practice racing hard.

Stand by my question.
Galen was pushed during the 5k but I agree with you he didn't look like he had to race to hard during the 10k. But I also think that if when Galen stopped to put his shoe back on if they had taken 2-4 laps hard instead of just like 3/4 of one than he may not have won. But with the races played out Galen had a phenomenal meet and will do well as Pro.

I love this site and the characters that are Mark and Ryan but I also agree with the Ghost of Obea Moore. Everyone always mentions that they appreciate the unpolished/shoot-from-the-hip quality of Flotrack, but there is no reason why Mark can't improve on his interview skills. It would make some of these interviews less embarrassing (the quote here about Galen running a workout was a bit awkward). Ryan is probably the greatest addition to this site because he interviews and relates to the athletes so well. Keep up the good work gentleman, but don't overlook trying to improve your weaknesses.
