there was so much hype about Wheating and his strong kick prior to the race that i think they totally diregarded Everett. if you look at the race the commentators and the cameras stayed on Wheating. I understand that cause he is an olympian, but that goes to show you in a championship race, anything could happen. I do believe Everett had the race had he just kept his stride and forgot that Wheating existed. we will see them again next year. i heard that Everett is a senior but has another year of outdoor eligibility.

Why, I see your point. Being an african-american, I hate it when we are given too much credit -- that's racist in itself. Like when Allyson Felix talks, the commentators are like "Daa_mmn, that is a smart chick." Do take note though that Jenny B has been known for her articulation as well as Chris Derrick and alot others. Maybe you only notice the black guys because you are a racist.
If you can list all the black respected orators you know on this site, I will list two times as many white ones.

Tevan ran a great race, you have to give him a lot of credit because Andrew Wheating had to use every last bit of energy to beat him. HOOK EM HORNS!!!!!

Dan, The whole point is to win the races you run not try and set a world record every time you go out. The only person on earth who realistically has that goal when he goes out is Haile. Winning leads to progression!

Even splits? The point is going through 400m at 50-51point. Even split that and you would get 140-142 (World Record). If you even split a 53 (like symmonds would going through the 400) then you would never reach the WR. If the way to go is even splits, I just hope its not at 53 seconds for a professional.

Athletes who sit and kick rarely see PR's. They never push themselves hard enough because satisfaction from a win means more to them than progression.

Are you serious? With 40 meters to go to a NCAA championship I would think you can find the motivation to keep pushing without wasting all your energy looking over your shoulder.

"If he would have never looked over his shoulder he would not have known where Andrew Wheating was and had no incentive to keep pushing"
Please tell me you are kidding. I would consider a national championship enough incentive to keep pushing. looking back wastes energy.

Even Splits   June 14 at 4:04pm
The way to go is even splits. It's very rare for someone to run even splits because you get sucked out in a fast pace, but that's the best way to run a fast 800. The Russian dude at the olympics a few years back, Tom Waddle are two great examples. Even splits got the gold because everyone else died from the front.

I love the way he runs because he pushes himself. Front runners use up a much greater amount of energy throughout the race than trail-end runners. This is because no one is pushing the leader but themselves. Does anyone know if Everett is a Junior or Senior? USA needs more guys like this as I am sick of seeing no progress with USA's current 800m professionals.

If he would have never looked over his shoulder he would not have known where Andrew Wheating was and had no incentive to keep pushing...unless he thinks someone is always chasing him. Which he will sooner or later condition himself to and wouldn't push it at all. It is good to look over your shoulder. Shee-it, look at Galen Rupp in the 10k. Homeboy looked back the whole last lap.

Ryan!! "Why Guy" is talking trash about your interviewing skills! What a loser! This is one of the better interviews I have ever seen! Everett has awesome speaking skills! I have to agree with one of the comments though, had Everett not worried where Wheating was, hands down he would of won and possibly went 145 mid-high! The experience will come. Great job today!

This guy is my idol!! Mad props for going out that fast! Americans will never make the finals of the olympics because the never push themselves the first lap. It's about time we got some more runners with a kadevis style approach to the 800m. This guy is going to be amazing! Good luck at USA's!

Well maybe one of these days he'll learn not to look over his shoulder and maybe he won't... He's the one running so what's it to you? Great job Tevan and I love watching your interview's! Very well spoken. :)

Stay Focused   June 13 at 3:53pm
One of these days he'll learn that turning around and looking over your right shoulder ( for Wheating ) 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 35m will cost you the race!!!

A huge mental mistake.

Everything doesn't need to be taken literally. It is called the evolution of speech my man. We could all start using "thou" and "art" and "cometh" if you'd like.

WHY?   June 13 at 3:21pm
Why does everyone keep saying "I mean"? The first thing you said at the beginning of the interview was I mean and you didn't even say anything yet. It's dumb. Just stop it.
