W 3k steeple F01 3k steeple

I think Mel Lawrence is still the national high school record holder in this event. She ran something like 10:27 up in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 10th grade to get it. She may have improved on that record before graduating. This was a 10:07 and with some of the good steeple girls pushing her she can easily drop into the nines.
We all enjoyed her Nationals 2006 race (she was still high school) in Indianapolis. On the 2nd lap she was paying too much attention to Fowler (BYU) next to her and went zooming over the water beam, missing it completely. Naturally every great photographer at the meet got the slo-mo pictures of her going face first into the water. But she soon regained everyone's respect as she ran down the leaders, soaking wet, blowing by them to win the meet. It goes without saying, there was an occasional chewing gum bubble in her face as she cleared the jumps!

She is un frickin' believable. Such a talent at this event! First steeple in 2 years, imagine how good she will be in the future. Definitely sub 10 this year, maybe even under 9:50 with the right competition, heck maybe under 9:40. Conditions didn't look like optimal conditions either.

She is GOOD! 1st steeple in 2 years? and she sets a school record by almost 30 seconds?! Its insane!
