"That only served as a prelude to his silver medal run in the final of the 800 meters at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials"
They give medals out at the USOTs?
I love that it was the USC guy.

Californians know the guy in blue next to him in the last 40 meters is Cory Primm (UCLA). Very fast! Andy smoked him.
I think anyone who follows track knows who that is. Top hs 800 runner a few years ago with a 148.

it looks like he just thought with 50 meters to go "hey, he's only 10 meters ahead of me, I can still get him" and decided to win. forget his last 200m I wanna know what his last 40m was, I wouldn't be surprised if it was under 4.8.

Coach Vin's great advice to him in the Trials 800. Stay close through the race, and have a great last 100 meters! Sekretarski (USC) was anticipating him coming hard from behind. Already at full speed with 200 to go, he thought he had Wheating beat. Poor Andy was tired. You have to give him a lot of credit for pulling this race out of his hat. You saw all of the "Green People" in the stands at the end of the video. I'll give Andy a 10 for entertainment value in this 800!

Anonymous Coward......what's your deal? A little jealous of what Wheating can do? I'd agree with Track Starr...if you think that of Wheating you know nothing about track and field. The kid's an awesome runner! Be happy for him instead of talking trash. I'd like to see you do it?!

Wow Track Starr...did you ever think that Wheating may be peaking for other championships this track season, and that he ran both the 1500 and 800 rounds and finals, plus the fact that he most probably trained through this meet.......

I don't think Wheating beat him...I paused it right at the line at the red/white was ahead of him....granted it's from an off angle....but if I were the coach I would ask to see that finishlynx photo.

almost seems as though the ducks mid-distance / distance crew were competing to see who could make their race most dramatic and show off the biggest kick. . .rupp 54 to close 10k, rupp centro and wheating all kicking hard in 1500 with wheating waiting til last 50m in both 1500 and 800 to make huge moves. awesome looking game when it works.

Yeah, when you think about it, he's racing against a fresh field. He had run two prelims, then a tough 1500 closing in 51, and then had enough left at the end of the 800 to catch the guy, who was also closing his last 200 very quickly. He is better than he was last year at this point.
