This has to go down as the best amercian female distance runner performance so far this yr and in a couple yrs. only thing that can compare recently would have to be shalane's 10k AR.

First, I'm old enough to have watched Jim Beatty, Jim Ryan, Martin Liquori, Mary Decker Slaney, Dave Wottle et. al. And, except for Dave Wattle's '72 Olympic 800 championship I've never enjoyed a race more. Great Job Jenni.

Second, hey you guys, all the other American girls in the race are great people. Why say an unkind word about any of them? Shalane and Cara have already proven their mettle, and the others are on their way up. Shannon has many great days ahead of her, as does Miss Willard, both are already fabulous.
Third, yes, the TV coverage was horrific, they never even mentioned Jenny's name until it was 50 m to go and at the end the announcer said that she might be close to the collegiate record, when she blew it apart.

Jenny B coming from off the pace. Classic Wetmore strategy.
I was talking about Shannon Robury! Last years best female miler! NOT Shalane Flanagan America's best overall distance runner!

next time read more closely!

One more thing.....hehe. This has got to be the most exciting time for women's distance running in the U.S.A.. Just look at this year compared to last. It's brilliant. I remember watching the trials and thinking why aren't the woman who don't have the standard even trying to race hard? Especially the 1500 and 800. It's a new wave of exciting and fresh talent and I love it. How do some of these woman have shoe contracts that constantly run 4:09 and up? It is going to be an AWESOME trials for World Champs.

Both Goucher's?...it is hard to say that Kara burned out after producing some of the fastest marathoning times by an american female and also some great performances on the track before turning to the marathon.
When Kara runs 2:20ish, then we'll talk about fastest marathoning times. Until then, she's just one of the fastest of the "current crop". Deanna ran way faster and Shalane WILL run way faster. Great performances on the track? Decent, good, yes. Great, no. Not being mean spirited at all, just honest. The hallow bronze doesn't count, Beijing does.

Jenny, YOU did great! Absolutely outstanding! Keep it up girlfriend. I've watched you work out at CU many times. Your hard work and dedication have paid off. You let you feet do the talking, unlike too many others.

Pretty sure Goucher(s) and Ritz haven't burnt out and if you say they did it isn't because of their collegiate careers so not sure what you based that off of. I don't see much of adam on the circuit, kara is doing pretty well last I checked, and Ritz hasn't had the greatest marathon performances but does well on track. wetmore focuses a lot on increasing ones maximum aerobic potential so, jenny should be just fine. look forward to what the future holds for her.

And speaking of a potential pro contract etc. That is another thing that I admire about Jenny B. She is definately NOT about the $. She simply loves to run and to compete, and to represent her school, and her country. She could have turned pro after the olympics but she didnt.
She could turn pro now but she wants to stay and race another year for the Bufs, with her team. She is endearing and refreshing, and a breath of fresh air IMO.

Great job Jenny! Spectacular race. I agree that the announcers might have been able to do a better job but not everybody is perfect. What was disappointing was watching it myself with a lap to go and saying to myself, "Wow, Jenny looks pretty good, I bet she has a good kick in store" and in the mean time the announcers ignored her until the last 100m.

It is too bad she is coming onto the pro market in such a bad financial time, because her contract would be/still will be unreal. In a healthy market I would say she could command 250k plus performance bonuses from Nike or someone else able/willing to put up the money. In todays market that number might go down to 150k but she should still be the highest paid female runner out there.

Agreed that the NBC coverage was terrible. Lewis Johnson forgot Anna Willard's name half way through the race and they didn't even mention Barringer until the last 100 meters. I get the sense that Dwight Stones is the only member of that crew that is actually a fan of track and keeps up on recent developments.
