topper Harley..good movie but sorry man bekele has done the same tactic for years and look at him. it doesn't matter how you win a race all that matters is that you did what takes to win whether its sitting back for a kick or prefontaine that . just saying galen wanted to win and did what he had to and i'm pretty sure his 6 ncaa titles prove it and so does the national title

Share Some Lead June 27 at 3:38pm
American runners are wussies! The new tactic is to sit and wait for the kick! They won't dare sharing some lead?! Well, we used to have respect for Prefontaine the great for his guts! Even Bob Kennedy knew he needed to go in front sometimes but it seems the youngers didn't follow his steps. I can't wait to see what you guys will do in Berlin, I guess u will take a nap and wake up in 15th place huh!?

( IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN, DON'T WATCH THE RACE, HONEY.)

Confused,
Lagat will race both 1500 and 5k if he wants because he is the reigning world champion. Webb did not win World's in 2007 and did not place top 3 at nationals so he will not be running in Berlin

okay i'm lost and i haven't paid much attention to any other runners except for galen but is lagat going to be entered in the 5k at worlds cause he won nationals in 07 and does the same concept apply to Webb in the 1500?

Re: Galen Vs. Bob Kennedy   June 28 at 12:53am
You are right about Bob having faster times at younger ages than Galen. What I meant by saying that Galen is at Bob's level in the '90s is that Galen is a Great Racer & American Champion like Bob was...Galen is also extremely dominant against American Runners like Bob was in the 90's. I'm curious to see if Galen can get to the next level and dominate the East Africans the way he dominates Americans ? The lack of any American sub 27 minute 10k runners will probably make Galen start training with Kenyans like Bob used to. It's a logical progression if he wants to keep improving. Also, I'd like to see Ritzenhein commit his tremendous talents to the 5K & 10K over the next 3 years. He has the talent to run sub 13 for 5k & sub 27 for 10K...He just needs to develop more speed like Galen has done. I wish Rupp, Ritz, Tegankamp, Solinsky, Ryan Hall & Alan Webb trained together to make each other better...Intense competition & team work is why the East Africans are so dominant.

Galen Vs Bob   June 27 at 10:25pm
Hum I don't think Rupp is already where Bob kennedy was in 1996! At age 21, Bob ran 3:38 ( 1500m) while still at 23 Galen's best is 3:44. In 1996, Bob 26 ran 12:58 one of the three only sub 13 of all time ( non african). He later went on to run 7:30 for 3000m. Rupp pb's are 13:18 (5000m), 7:44(3000m) but still he is young if He works really really hard maybe he will achieve what Bob did...Bob used to train with a whole bunch of kenyans with McDonald as coach and he learned how to sometimes surge to the front and force the pace when it's needed. He gotta better his 10000m times tho' 27:33 is the new 10k standard for roads' races...

Can Rupp or Ritz Medal ? said:
Rupp ran an outstanding race. However, his competition at World's can run the last lap under 54 seconds while running at sub 27 minute pace the rest of the race...Rupp is at the same level as Bob Kennedy was in the 90's...He's the Best 5K/10K guy in America, but can he be one of the top 3 in the World ? I hope he can do it !!! Also, Ritz ran strong & I hope he sharpens his kick so he can have a chance to medal too !!!
I meant to say that Rupp is the best "American Born" 5k/10K runner...Lagat (via Kenya) is a US citizen, but not American Born...He can still kick with Rupp despite being in his mid-30's, & Lagat is a double gold medalist from the 2007 World Championships at 1500 & 5000m...So until Rupp beats Lagat at 5k, he's not quite the top American 5K runner yet.. Also, Tegankamp & Solinksy can kick with Rupp too....But Rupp is clearly the Top American runner at 10K because Lagat doesn't run the 10K.

Rupp Workin It   June 26 at 2:23pm
Maybe if Rupp had someone of his caliber to run with it might be a worthwhile race (i.e. worlds). He knows he can outkick anyone at the US champs, but if he had to work harder, he might not look so bad in other people's eyes. Granted, I didn't like his smug smile for the longest time, but seriously folks, give him a break. He's just better than everyone else in the field and puts on a great show for the fans.

how could anyone say that galen rupp is a ? the guy is one pf the best distance runners in america. sure he doesn't lead much during races but thats not his style. if galen can help bring some life back to american distance running at the international level, i don't care if he does not lead until the final meter!
