i went to school that was in the same conference as Dorian's high school. We had a runner on our team who use to beat Dorian all the time.Michael Grieve baby!He used to just run and talk to Dorian and then on the last lap he would take off and Dorian would have no chance at catching him....But I still have tons of respect for this guy.He came from the middle of nowhere!

The conversion of 3:35.23 to 3:50.9 doesn't mean that he'd have to keep up the 3:35.23 pace for another 100m; it means that the same performance-level effort needed to produce a 3:35.23, spread over a mile rather than 1500m, would produce a mile time of 3:50.9--a slightly slower pace. (3:35.23 also equates to 5000m in 13:15.74, a considerably slower pace but an equivalent performance.) The comparison is valid at 1500-to-mile, because an athlete is always very close to equally prepared for both those distances, whereas the farther from the 1500m the second event is, the less accurate the comparison becomes for a given person. In more extreme cases, it shows not what an athlete could do in another event, but what a performance at one event is worth in another event, probably for a different person. (Ulrey's 1500m is also worth a decathlon score of 8087, for instance.)

Friend of Dorian, first of all, I doubt it, and second of all lets take into consideration he arrived in Rome one day before the race, experiencing a 7 hour time difference and all of the adversity that comes with travel. Under the circumstances a 3:35 was incredible and he is undoubtably cable of running something even better. And thirdly, what is with people like you who gotta hate?

dorian ulrey can't run 3:50 for the mile. probably 3:52 but no faster than that. He was all out to try and run 3:35. could not keep that pace up for another 109 meters.

Such a good interview. Such a great effort. It's efforts like this that keep me coaching and trying to get our young athletes to push their barriers. Awesome piece of work on both parts.

Dorian Ulrey A standard 1500 Rome Golden League part 1

Dorian Ulrey flies into Roma at the last minute and runs the A standard to secure his spot on the US World Championship team in Berlin. 3:35.23!!! A 4.5 second PR for the young man.
