Sam, the IAAF rule is that the reigning world champ in any event gets to go run in Berlin. Since Lagat is the reigning World Champ in both the 1500 and 5000, he gets to run both events if he wants. It does not affect Teg, Solisky, or Jager at all, since those three qualified on their own merits. Basically the world champ gets a free ride/wild card entry into the race at Worlds.

I think Lagat's decision to run the race does not affect any of the three going, besides of course the fact that they would then have to race him.

i remember hearing benard lagat say that he might run the 5000 after his 1500, like if he feels good. does anyone know anything about that, like is lagat planning on running the 5000, can he even run it. is there a rule that would allow him to run it because he was 5000 champ in 2007 and if thats the case would he have to take out one of the 3 guys in the race
