"Is it everything you thought it was going to be?"
(It's not a cheesy question, it's a great question)
I'm just quite surprised the answer to that was not a flat "NO".
Even if you ignore the fact that 2 contenders were eliminated due to an incident on the backstretch,
she still needed to wait for the official DQ to be official which at the very least would also take away the immediate joy of medaling.
That can't be all she hoped for in a medal and by not acknowledging any asterisk next to "3rd" introduced a huge cringe factor to this interview.
Sha-nay-nay- you are an inspirational runner. THanks for the perfect form and great attitude. Great inspiration for female runners. You are so intelligent and well-spoken, to top it off.
is this website propoganda? do they always censor public opinions that differ from their own?
regardless, grats to shannon on her 4th place medal. if she continues to progress, she should might be the fastest female 1500 meter runner in america (3rd? this year), that is, unless barringer decides to step down in distance
Excellent interview. Thanks to Ms Rowbury, to her family and to Flotrack, for this. Insightful and inspiring. A great role model with character and heart on display.
Thanks also Flotrack community members for 'shouting down' those who made irrelevant and insulting comments. That sort of commentary is almost always a part of the blog world of course - disrespectful and immature.
Another post questioned why people look to criticize athletes whose interviews are posted here. I couldn't agree more.
In Shannon's case, she is not only an excellent athlete, but a highly intelligent woman and someone for young athletes to look up to. She obviously was brought up well and raised by loving parents.
Thanks for the interview Kevin. I don't get the chance to ask all the questions I would like during the season, not wanting to create anxiety. Also, being that Shannon only spends a couple of months a year at home, I don't want to "talk shop" while she is on R+R. So it is great to get answers to questions I didn't ask. Thanks for coming to Shannon's defense as well. It is not easy for her to move back with the 'rents and G'rents after five years of independence. But what I really want to know is why is Berlino passed out on the china cabinet.
To Anonymous Coward: Haven't you figured it out yet that the house belongs to a family member?
If this is your way of joking, it's not funny. Shannon is a classy lady and classy athlete. Class is something you either have or don't have. You obviuously don't.
Congratulations on your sucesses! I can't wait to see you break 4 in the 1500. I'd like to see you run sub-8:30 in the 3000 too. I would have liked to know about what you do between seasons to keep in shape yet get enough rest before starting back up again.
When working on form or tired in a run I tell myself, "Run like Rowbury' Shannah has great form. All those drills and core work must really help! Keep up the great work Shannon.
the first version of the interview was cut off for some reason when shannon was talking about the racing tactics of athletes from other countries, but the full version is now up!
I truly do not understand the impulse that some people have to find something to criticize about these athletes after an interview. I guess it is just envy plain and simple. To any athlete that reads criticisms of themselves on flotrack or any other message boards, please remember that for every envious critic, there are thousands of us true runners who are awed and inspired by you. Whether you experience success or disappointment in you running, we are pulling for you and wish you all the best.
Thanks Shannon for sharing your experiences on your blog!
I hope we don't have to wait until next year to hear from you again!
You haven't been injured in two years...not many runners can say that! Props to Coach Cook!
First, this version got cut off. The full piece will be posted momentarily.
Would you critics prefer that athletes not invite us into their homes? Shannon was a great sport to make time for us considering her schedule. It was my pleasure to be in their home, and it was simply amazing.
Your criticism in this manner is not OK. At least log on and take responsibility for your rude, ignorant comments.
I can speak for the Flo folks and say that we are here to support the sport through insight and coverage. We want to dig in and discuss what makes our heroes tick.
Your unproductive comments are disrespectful and unhelpful.
You a**holes should be ashamed of yourselves that Shannon's mom has to read your insulting, disrespectful garbage. Who raised you?
Oh, I almost forgot: Go Shannon!
The house belongs to Shannon's 93 year old grandmother who she refers to as her Nonie. All of the trinkets belong to Nonie and they are all things that she treasures from her life. In fact, she has a story for each and every item in her house. If you have a few days, I'm sure Nonie would love your company and she would love to share the stories with you.
Classy group here. . criticizing her home, and then the class envy regarding Shannon attending Duke U. Nice. I believe she earned a scholarship not that it's anyones business.
Yah! What's with the decorating? No 6-foot cable spool for a dining room? And where's the empty pizza boxes and the recycle bag full of Miller Lite cans (I'm watching my weight)? lol
Shannon Rowbury earned a rare distance medal at a championship event in bringing home the bronze in Berlin. In this segment Shannon talks about her medal and the difficult challenges she faced in 2009. Shannon also gives her thoughts on why racing etiquette among US runners may be different than international competitors.
Your post and lack of respect for this great athlete and great role model gives me the cringe factor
