thanks fOR the great interview Ryan; where would we get this insight without you guys. Congratulations on a great year Galen, truly a great year.

Why are you guys debating on if Pre would have liked Galen or not. That seems kind of insignificant to me. He's a nice guy and is one of the best talents we have in America right now. He works hard and had paid his dues plenty of times in races. I understand sharing the lead being a runner but at world and national championships you go for the win and now that he has speed he can just relax and kick it home and has had a pretty successful senior and college career doing that running some fast times. Instead of cutting everything he does down we should respect what he's doing and where he's going; because ultimately i would like to see the American's contending for metals not just top 10 finishes. And he's one of our best shots for the near future.

I guess Flash400 must either be channeling Pre, or he knew him, which is doubtful. To predict who a dead man would like or dislike is pretty weird. Calling it a "fact" that Pre would have hated Rupp shows us that Flash400 doesn't use very reliable sources to get information, aside from a twisted imagination. Hey Flash! You must have a pretty big opinion of yourself, speaking for the dead.

Maybe the press should interview you at the major meets as "Flash400, the voice of Pre"!
Flash400 just has a chip on his shoulder and wants to flex his weak imagination a little by drawing useless conclusions and spewing written diarrhea.

I hear where you are all coming from but it doesnt change the fact that Pre would of hated him I dont feel you can even argue that. Once again I will say he is the most talented distance runner america has but Im not a fan. Look what would of happened if the rest of the guys stopped at usatf nationals i bet you galen would of come to a complete stop as well. if thats what you want a watch, a bunch of guys standing around then be my guest.

Why don't some of you post some of your races and workouts so you can get ripped apart. I dare ya. I bet you don't have the balls... showing yourselves barely breaking 6 minutes in a 5 x 1 mile workout, or running as hard as you can to hit 65 seconds in a 400m workout.... COME ON KNOW IT ALLS! LET SEE YOUR STUFF!!!

I agree with the guys below. I've never seen Bekele take the lead in a championship race until the last 400. That's the smart way to race, you use less energy, and you have a psychological edge on the leader. Now that he's out of college, and can just train train train with Alberto and that great Oregon TC group, I think he'll be at the spot in a couple years where he can hang on even with a killer second 5K, then be in contention to use that kick he developed this season.

Africa is not a country, actually it is a Big Continent with plenty Countries in it!

People don't like him cause he is compared to someone who had charisma and guts. He has neither but is touted the next coming of Pre. He was also a professional runner, then somehow went to college, not very many runners get Nike to back them in high school. For everything that is handed to him you'd think he was Bekele. No doubt he's talented, no doubt he has a lot of room to improve, but you don't HAVE to be a fan just because.

haha, I guess I see where Flash is coming from......? It's funny to read that while I was thinking during that interview how ridiculously likable he is, he's so laid back! And I won't lie, I'm jealous of this gf he speaks of, he's a cutie ;)

As an American I just don't get it....how can you not like Galen? In any other country excluding Africa Galen would be athletic hero!

Galen's running style is to draft and let others lead. What is so wrong in that, its his style. I have to admit that it is not the most likable strategy, but if it gets him the win at USATF's whats the problem. Why take the lead if you dont have to. Nick Symmonds has the same strategy. Love him or Hate him; there is no doubt that he is good

Hey flash, you freaking idiot, remember that one olypics pre ran in, where others were leading and he drafted, remember how slow the pace was? and did pre start leading that race? NO YOU IDIOT! Get your facts straight before you start saying why he is a "blood sucker". NO, he is not. Its called racing. Lets see you go out and run the 10k at worlds. I would really like to see that. and you should have your stupid comment taped on your back. You have to be the most incompetent person i have ever come across. Just because galen doesn't lead does not mean he is a bad runner. He wil lead when he feels it to be necessary.

Flash there are a lot of things you just don't get. Kennedy had nearly half of the depth of the top African talent to deal with that Galen and the current crew do. Pre had less than 1/10th of what they are dealing with. Want to see Galen lead? Flashback to NCAA 10K as a freshmen. Led the entire thing to be outkicked by Bernard Lagats cousin who was a 5th year senior. Made NCAA's a 28:30 race, as a FRESHMAN. But what did that get him? 2nd place. He led a large amount of NCAA cross in 2007 after coming back from worlds and having a short season. Where did he finish? 2nd. How much did you see Bekele lead in the 10K final the other day? How much have you ever seen him lead in a race where the win mattered? How about Geb? And these are the two that go down in history as the greatest distance runners ever. Rupp doesn't have to lead to prove anything. He needs to learn how to race in every aspect. Pre was amazing and so is his legacy. Pre was clutch (mainly domestically) for his time and place in history. If Pre were around today he'd have a much tougher time in both the NCAA and on the world level. Pre's best 5K was 13:21? Bekele closes 27:00 10Ks in under 13:00. If Pre were in his prime right now he'd be a tough, talented American runner pissed off that he can't beat the top Africans, and he very well might not be winning US championships. The long distance running world is like night and day difference from what it was in the early 70's, which is why Dathan was the highest American finisher in an international championship 10K since Shorter.

I think this kid is the most talented distance runner the USA has but I find it very hard to root for this kid and dont understand why Eugene loves him. The reason for this is his complete lack of willingness to take the lead even when his oppenents completly stop he refuses to share the load. I was in Eugene for the 10k and the leaders basically went to a walk to let him take lead and he would not. I feel Pre would of hated this kid and called him a blood sucker. I have seen him on multiple occasions refuse to share the lead duties. I feel he is the complete opposite of what Pre stood for as a runner and I dont see the love affair. That being said he has an extreme amount of talent and I wish him the best of luck but I cant be a fan.

You made the safer call... If you didn't finish on top for NCAA people would of talked crap. Sure you would of had Eugene easier, but your season was just as long. Lets say you didn't go as hard and you finished 7th instead of 8th. You made the right choice. Your what 22, 23... There is plenty of time for you to Medal at a World Event. Keep it going Galen, we all back you now that you are actually "pro"
