I'm a big fan of the University of Iowa and their coach - and I enjoy being able to become more familiar w/ all the programs (ie: the Providence episodes earlier this season) just as much as the episodes where we see Ritz getting ready for major international competition. I prefer the women's WOW (for the simple reason that the women runners are nice to look at) - the workout strategy, team motivation, and effort are equal to any men's workout. All that being said, I felt this was not the strongest episode - felt there was to much talking over the running action and it was too difficult to understand everything the coach was saying.

I agree but I think your meant to say the 31st. Anyway I think the Iowa High School state meet could have some really impressive races run this year in all four classes. It's a great state to run! :)

People magazine has a website, that should satisfy your lust for known star quality.

I think it was another good WOW, and it makes sense to me to highlight college xc workouts given that it is college xc season.

Just watch Megan Lessard at Pre Nationals and then at the Nationals. Megan will achieve the goal that she has set for herself, All American. Great to see Megan running and hear her thoughts. We remember her well at Columbia as a person who got progressively better each year and in each season

I agree, the workouts suck bigtime these days. We have already posted our suggestions, that is we want to see bernard lagat workout, or another german fernandez workout, or an oregon workout. We dont want to see unknown chicks running on golf courses. we want famous people with known star quality.
Listen Hail,

The Oregon fetish is boring. Hohum, we know they'll run well, we know Bernard Lagat is fast. Who knows how Iowa will do? They're a wild card team.
You're boring--probably a second rate high school runner trying to relive the glory days. Get off your ass, loser.

... I suppose every body's entitled to their own opinion, but I don't see where the detractors below are coming from. Great WOW, as usual! Thanks guys! (Oh, and Flotrack isn't always able to get us WOW's because they're traveling, sometimes to the far reaches of the globe, to bring us coverage of races we'd NEVER get to see otherwise... oh, and it's FREE, incase you hadn't noticed). Said it before & I'll say it again, Flotrack RULES. Thank you guys!!!

The golf course there is part of the university. They are great and we have been training on there for years I am sure that is why Coach Anderson made a point to say the name of the course. I was a former sprinter there and we occasionally got hit with a worm burner but otherwise no hassle from the golfers. I don't know too many male golfers that would mind a bunch of college age ladies running around.

I had such a high respect for Flotrack and their use of WOW was an innovative idea. But they've slacked in getting us these WOW's and the quality of these sessions themselves is decreasing as well. You've already got with most of the top tier teams (Stanford, PC, OSU, CU, etc.) try getting with some of the lower leveled teams doing some of their key workouts. Research is key. Please don't blow this

So I'm curious about this b/c we have a golf course next to our campus that they refuse to let us run on. We do sneak on occassionally and the golfers seem aggravated and we feel like we're in the way of the golfers. How do they run on the golf course, with golfers, and not either feel like they are in the way [going to get hit with balls or interrupt people's shots] or not get an earful from the golfers?

Iowa Women favorite workout - Season 4, Episode #5

The University of Iowa women's XC team has been to the NCAA Championship for the past three years. Each of those years the Hawkeyes have had their #1 runner in the top 10, but this year the dynamic has changed. The women don't have that power house up front but they do have a strong, tight pack. This fall they aim to make their fourth consecutive NCAA Championship and will be looking to beat some great teams out of their region this weekend at PreNationals up in Terre Haute. Check out the ladies running their favorite fall workout in their preparation....

Workout:
Continous - 2x 150m gradual hill, into 5-minute tempo on golf course. Repeat for 30-35 minutes total. (each set - hills/tempo - lasts about 9 minutes)

Music:
Jet Horns "Crayon"
