This year the Manhattan finish is going to be even longer after the hill with the construction. So it'll be that one downhill than about 600 meters of the flats path towards the Tortoise and hare. Should make for some great finishes!

Tough call on which is best, Mt. San Antonio College (SAC) or Van Cortlandt Park. If it's too hot or raining, they go different course at SAC (it's a serious safety issue). New York runs rain, snow, cold, hot. Don't really like the Olmstead-style gravel walks. He designed Central Park and Thompson Park in my home town, Watertown. Very unforgiving. If you go down it will mess you up. A typically trained XC runner won't walk into SAC and do well. You have to go out of your way to work big hills. Hasay is a prime example. Her "home" course has hills even worse than SAC. Starts in her driveway, ends in her driveway. Perfect training course. The NY finish is a long steady downhill. People like Nicole Blood, a course record holder, have probably worked on being able to hold that long finish at speed.
Tough call!

Boom Roasted. Nice pick up, I was about to say the same. The irony of correcting somebody's spelling mistake for something one spells incorrectly themself.

Been to both, Mt. SAC is better, unless it's really hot then I would rather be at Manhattan, unless the parking there sucks (which it does), so I would rather be at Mt. SAC.

The Beast of the East....Reebok Manhattan XC Invite

Flotrack will once again be at the two largest cross country meets in the US. The Reebok Manhattan XC Invitational and the Reebok Mt. SAC Invitational. Over the years some of the best runners in the history of the US XC have run these courses, but which one is the best?? With your help, Flotrack will try to find out which of these meets - the Beast of the East at Manhattan or the Best of the West at Mt SAC - are the best in the country. Its starts this weekend at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx and will continue two weeks later in Walnut, CA.

Stay tuned for all the coverage of the varsity races and Eastern Champs races this weekend at Manhattan brought to you by Reebok and Flotrack.

And if you've run either course, let us know what you ran and why you think its the best in the US!
