This was so well done. Galen and Jenny were the obvious best choist among an outstanding group of finalists. They are two incredible and beautiful kids. Pre would have been proud of them both. As an old runner from the 1960's, I can appreciate this award.

The NCAA had NOTHING to do with this award. Don't make that mistake! This award is from the USTFCCCA. The NCAA would never provide this. They don't provide a lot of the awards for our sport. Only the NCAA National Championship team awards and a they recognize a very small few individual awards and that's all. The coaches association picks up the All-American, academic awards and the COY and AOY awards as well.

The 2009 Bowerman Award (Full Archived Show)

The 2009 Bowerman Award was the first ever of its kind in collegiate track and field, awarding the top athlete in the NCAA. The Bowerman Award is the equivalent to football's Heisman Trophy and in its first year, the USTFCCCA put on a great show to highlight and make stars of our athletes. The award was designed by Nike's Vice President of Design, Tinker Hatfield. The inaugural Bowerman Award was presented to Colorado's Jenny Barringer and Oregon's Galen Rupp.
