Brenda Martinez is from Rancho Cucamonga HS. A relatively new school that kind of spun off Etiwanda HS, both in San Bernardino County, CA (my county too). Etiwanda has a serious running program and it quickly became apparent that the new school inherited the blood line. Brenda probably holds most of their course records in XC. Certainly the home course, and their school record at the Woodbridge Invite also. Amazing range of talent. Great in the 200/400 all the way up to XC distances. Not someone you want to pair up with in your final kick at the state xc meet!

Danica Wyson from Orange County, CA had to write off this XC season with a foot injury. Expecting to be running well by track season. Last year she made Coach Mike Dunne's team and ran in Amman, Jordan (15 yrs old then). Had a chance to talk to her and mom at the PAC-10 Championships where she had no trouble getting around the course on crutches. She was almost sub-18 minutes as a 14-15 year old. Good things come in small packages and she really is both, very much like McLaughlin and Brasovan. Just putting the name out there now. I'm betting in a few years she'll be wearing PAC-10 running gear and doing very well (maybe Oregon!).

Ryan, well done, on this selection, Maritinez has come a long way from 2;16/4:56 h.s. runner. history shows, martinez one of only 5 jr in clloege age to break 4:10 for 1500m, and one of few who have master both 800m, and 1500m while in college. it looks like she is still developing, understnd she has long range plans for her running carrier. Wow what a great Kick!

Athlete to Look For in 2010 - Best of 2009

Not many collegiate athletes look for races in the summer, usually because of xc, but with only a track season left in college this year Brenda Martinez took advantage of the summer season and ended her year in a big way. Brenda ran four races in Belgium, won all four, and set three PRs! Before her trip she had run 2:02 and 4:13, now she'll be coming into her final season at UC Riverside as the NCAA mid-distance favorite with marks of 2:00 and 4:09. Look out for this one in 2010....

Check out the great profile on Brenda that gives her honors and time progressions over the last four years. UC Riverside Bio
