I can't believe no one has chimed in about the basic underlying truth to "Aw Shucks' " original statement:

- Andrew deserves training structure and support.
- Andrew needs insight, education and marketing support with respect to developing the Andrew Wheating brand in order to maximize his earning potential.
- Track fans deserve to see Andrew maximise the potential from his Rudisha-esque physique in the next few years.
(notwithstanding he's only 6 weeks out of college :)
i agree, Andy deserves the best America can give him. Hope to see him succeed even more in the future and keep the same great attitude

Awe Shucks, I guess your parents failed to teach manners to you. Too bad, it shows. Don't tell someone to "shut up" and you don't have to use disgusting "f" words. How classless. The poster is entitled to his opinion. Grow UP please. why isn't he kicked off for rudeness/foul language? Where are the mods?
because F and A are letters. as far as manners goes, I'm pretty sure bad mouthing coaches and athletes is just as bad as saying "A hole". probably worse. and it really doesn't make sense to say "the poster is entitled to his opinion" and then say that the other poster should get kicked off for rudeness? It seems as though the other guy is a fan, supporting Andy and the good coaches of America's top distance runners, while one was bashing them. then you take the side of the bashers. go back to lets run. you should get "kicked off"

I have been a fan of this guy since I saw him run at the 2008 NCAA's. I was in the first row at the finish. His poise, and character, a lot of athlete's should take note of why this man is successful: he loves the sport. I have loved seeing Wheating prosper the past few years.

Hmmm. This interview is like all of his. He sounds like he has no goals or expectations. Someone needs to take control here. Oh that's right. Salazar only cares about the marathon, Schumacker only coaches 5,000 guys, Rowland seems stuck on Symmonds. Who is taking over. Vin? Too busy again? 1:44 and 3:51; this country and he desearves somoeone to take control of the ship on this one. He has quite a free spirit sound to him. So Vin either take him over or find someone who will so 5 years from now our best middle distance candidate is not riding bikes in the amazon like your last great potential miler.
And the OTC coaches are the only capable coaches? Sitting here thinking of all the athletes in OTC, the only one with a World/Olympic medal is Shalane Flanagan and she got that under Cook. Cook has done a great job with the small number of athletes he coaches. Same with Warhurst (though he is retiring, dont think he is taking on new athletes). Mahon has been successful with distance runners, but he also coaches Anna Pierce who is a similar type of athlete to Andy events wise. Gags is doing a great job with Donohue right now. Whoever coaches A. Johnson is doing a good job. Point is there are more great Coaches out there beyond Salazar, Schmacher (With an H, not a K), and Rowland. And saying Rowland seems stuck on Symmonds is just a cop out because you couldnt think of anything else to say. He has a lot of great athletes who are improving and get attantion from the coaches. Symmonds is just the most accomplished in the group.

Anyone else think he carries himself on the track like Steve Cram did? This kid has the potential to do some great things.

shut the ef up. you are a complete moron. It just sounds like he's enjoying himself while he runs. he became a 1:44.6 3:51 guy by having fun and loving running. you are just an uptight A hole. just cause andy doesn't walk around with a pole shoved up his butt and hate life you think someone needs to put a leash on him. get over yourself. Salazar seems to train a pretty decent 5k 10k guy if I'm not mistaken also (not just marathon). Galen rupp? ever heard of him.

1:44 is a good time, but he will need to keep lowering it to be a top elite 800 runner. Andrew is ready for a break out 1500 run.
