Nice post, all star. You (Joshua Neyhart) come on here, not even in the competition, and solely because you don't like the leading video, are crying cheat. Not only that, but you then continue by stating that a young man you have never met and has never said anything bad about you, does not deserve to win this competition in which he has placed a great deal of time and commitment. Your candour is uncalled for and unappreciated. Everyone reading your comments is now dumber having read it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.
Jake, enjoy each and every achievement and keep setting new goals. Don't be too surprised if you surpass some of them by a large margin. Enjoy your fast running while you can. Eventually, everyone slows down. Also, pay attention to everything your coach imparts to you. Someone of his stature in the running and coaching world has amazing knowledge.
Anonymous Coward - any artist should take Mr. Negative's comments and criticisms with pleasure. He, the audience, offered his opinion on what he did and didn't like. Quite frankly, I agree.
Just because you're biased and go to Shippensburg with Jake doesn't mean that you have to protect his (very) young eyes from seeing why he didn't go to Beijing.
Mr. Negative, keep your thoughts to yourself then. I am proud to call Jake a Shipmate and I think what he is doing trumps your view of the video. Keep going Jake! :)
Sorry, I didn't like the video though. Running around for 18 minutes isn't exactly that exciting to watch even if the story is good. yeah so it was a little bit repetitive so it didn't get my vote. Good luck with it though
Good job Jake, keep up the hard work and you'll do fine. Need to work on that arm swing though. Not very efficient. Other than that, heart and soul go a long way.
All you have to do is sign up (http://track.flocasts.org/auth/register), which takes less than a minute, go to this link (http://track.flocasts.org/beijing2008/finals), and then vote a 3 for the video. As you can see Jake is not winning at the moment, help him win this contest and make the trip to Beijing representing SHIP!
Thank you everyone for your support and trying to help out Jake. I apologize for not being more specific with the voting directions when I sent the email.
hey everyone you have to go to the final voting round screen to vote! voting is not giving it 5 stars. You have to log in and click 3 . It will say thanks for voting...heres the link http://track.flocasts.org/beijing2008/finals
Obstacles are those terrifying things that get in your way when you lose sight of your goal ... author unknown.
Pay no attention to the negative input... concentrate on the positive... you entered the contest... Way to Go... Go SHIP
I think it's great your trying to do but i think the video could have been much more interesting and MCUH shorter. We know what people look like when they are running, i don't think we need to watch it for 17 minutes of the 20 minute video. Also the video could have been better produced had he used the video poeple avaliable at Ship.
PSAC CHAMP: "PSU is a black hole, They offered me money and I turned it down. Anywayz Sam Borchers is a pervert and gives the entire program a bad name. If I wanted to drink excessively and overtrain I might have considered it." -----
I don't believe in hiding behind fake names to talk like i know about something i don't - I'll just say this, let our next 2 years speak for themselves, anyone who knows anything knows that our program just changed it's head coach, and things are improving quickly. As for calling me a pervert... lets talk some times - i'd love to hear what you got... my aim is sborch88
After reaching his goal of 15:44 and qualifying for the PSAC Championships, on Saturday March 2nd at East Stroudsburg University, Jake ran a 15:26.77 good enough for a 6th place finish out of 18 runners. Excellent job Jake!!!! Way to set a goal and work hard to achieve it.
For a crime to be committed the Mens Rea (Intent) must meet the Actus Reas (The actual acts). You could never prove my actual intent from my statement and you could NEVER say actus reas met those thoughts.
If i said that somebody should shoot the president, i would have to take an "critical step" towards performing the actions in which I threatened.

Congrats JAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! March 1, 2008 at 10:20am
In a court of law, retard, if thisperson was harmed in ANY way and they were aware of your statement, it would be called PROBABLE CAUSE! Would or LIKE TO. It both amounts to the same intent. Some student of law you are. And where did you take law, IRAN? Some other third world country where they leave in droves because of the unlawful disorder that is called social superiority? Moron. You sound and mispel like Tacky Tracky. That you AGAIN tacky?
Jake, Your video was fun to watch. It's too bad that a few jealous cry babies are trying to unnerve your efforts to go to China. I will vote everyday for you. The 15:46 is just a number to many, and perhaps some "pros" out in candyland can even beat it. Who cares.. the point being, you'll enjoy Bejing and they won't! (josh's mom)
I am a current law student (seriously), don't give me any of this legal bullshi*t. I did not say that I "would" be him over the head, I said "Id like to beat him over the head." Huge difference
It actually gets much more complicated when you look at cases involving threats such as City of Little Falls v. Witucki. You also must consider whether or not my statement created a clear and present danger, which it certainly does not.
I was simply exercising my first amendment right of free speech. Its pretty said that you ask me what country I'm from when you don't know the laws, let alone the consitution of your own country.
Hey Strap Boy Again... February 29, 2008 at 7:40pm
...sorry. I had a Tracky moment. I Dont know what foreign country that has brought us soooooooo much of their wonderful culture AND crime that YOU came from, but in my book that is a threat. lol. I was having a Socially Superior Ebonic moment. I apologize to all the intelligent and educated pople in America that WORK for a living.
"I'd like to beat this kid over the head". I DONT know what foreign country that has brought us soooooooo much of their wonderful culture AND crime, but in my book that is a threat.
Jocj Strap - That not only can be but is an aggressive statement and I would consider it a threat. If I knew who you were I would report you to the authorities for using the internet to threaten people. But alas you are another coward. Go Jake. And tacky, shut up!
MAN jake, these people can be mean! i think it is really awesome jake...i was totally inspired, even tho i see u like almost everyday and get to see all ur crazy outfits u still seem like a hero in the movie! haha I still wish i could hav gotten ur PR in high school tho...jk...u have come so far, congrats
Hey guys , family friends, and people that just liked the movie Ive really appreciated all your support. My PSAC race is this saturday, and Ill probably film it...I will probably end up putting it on here so Ill let you guys know.. A great quote that my friend gave me today that I think we can all live by is "When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place"----So thanks guys and well hopefully all goes well -Jake (15:46?)
That is the most over-used qoute in running. Please dont't say anything else. That comment just made us all dumber.
For the height thing, if you don't believe telling it how it is go to the social equity meeting and beat around the bush some with those people. Better yet, do us all a favor and just beat off.
Jock Strap = stupid comment. Giving an opinion like that with no reasoning is idiotic. Do you know Jake? I certainly hope so if your going to make a height comment like you did.
Tacky Tracky......I don't know a lot of what Pre's thoughts were on certain subjects but I judge from some of this well known quotes (i.e. "To give anything less than your best is the sacrifice the gift.") that Jake stands in much higher regard than you could apparently ever understand.
Id like to beat this kid over the head. This video could possibly be the worst I have ever seen. Im really upset that I just wasted my bandwith on this.
If you don;t grow any more, look into being a jockey
Jake, your awesome. Keep up the excellent work. Tacky Tracky......Jake has hardcore dedication which is something Pre would honor and who are you to talk about being beat by a girl?
Thanks Tracky but girls love the hair, Yeah its the susquehanna river in Pennsylvania..Its called long level.. And in regards to Tony, did you mean Anthony Famigliett, cause that would be legit!-Thanks Jake
How does it feel to get beat by a girl? I bet that if you grow your out for another week or two you could run the girls 5k. The running god (Pre) must be looking down in utter disgust.
When you break 14 let me know, that might make "watchable" movie
Tacky Tracky English AGAIN!!! February 25, 2008 at 8:43pm
"dem them deer don't boy". Interesting. I think you meant: hunt dem there deer dont you boy? Correct? Illegal alien, non English speaking... etc. etc. lol.
Nope. I like the underdogs. I am no bandwagon jumper. And jake did his video by HIMSELF and for HIMSELF. So he is an underdog. Go Jake. And that orange hat is cool. And btw, I am a Red Socks fan. But I am NOT from Boston.
Tacky. Hater Extrodinaire. February 25, 2008 at 7:04pm
Well you can always go to Watts and get some dat social superiority from dem dere homies tracky. How many pairs of ironed designer underpants that you wear to tight do you have? lol. Like teh world rotates around California. lol. Thats why the ONLY city in the US that is going broke is in California. Where do you get MOST of your water. Desert states. Power? Desert states. But lets not forget that properly made videos come from California. God forbid we dont remember that. lol. And I KNOW you received that English training in California at one of dem great schools that teach Spanglish and Ebonics as a second language. So get a grip there tacky tracky.

now what was THAT all about? california, mexico, cape cod ... someone either needs to calm down or put some coherent thoughts together. Good video, though.
Ah yes... The Gods of California speak to us lessers again. Wanna talk about what California has? One day Nevada will be the coast. What a boost for the rest of the country. And you know what. Most of the East coast schools are poor. So we do just fine. And who cares. There isnt one video or feat that can rival RIT's. Show me a California school that has run CROSS COUNTRY!!! How about even cross STATE. GO peddle your emotional superiority to the jerks in Cape Cop. They'll compete with you anytime. Their stuck up too. On the show, "Coast to Coast", guess where all the nuts and freaks call from mostly? WEST of the Rockies. Hmmm? Besides, your schools and most of California will belong to Mexico in the future when dominant population of you state votes to ceceed from the US and bring it back to Mexico. And if you want to consider Gearge Washington University, ITS the most expensive IN THE WORLD.
All i was saying is that this video cannot compete against videos like bicentenial man. Common 100 miles and 100 beers in the same week, that even trumps coast to coast. Forget this kid who runs like a clown and realize true work and dedication.
I will soon attempt to take bicentenial man to a new level by introducing 100 shots of Vodka. I shall call it the tricentenial.
not trying to start anything. Wish your video the best of luck. But RIT is d3, and on the distance side we have a 4:10 mile, 8:31 3k, 2:28 1K to our credit so far this season. So the line between d3, d2 and even lesser d1's is more about depth and funding than who could beat who in head to head competition. Again, good luck to your video.
and back to the comment about d3 vs d2. how about ship vs. whoever, what d3 schools beat ship? here is our top marks and you tell me what d3 team you're on beats us: 60- 6.98 200- 21.97 400- 49.8 800-156.5 mile- 414 3k- 847 5k- 1535 i could go on. and thoes times are prior to our conference meet, so there is room for more. at the top of our conference we have distance wise these times: 800- 151 mile- 409 3k- 819 5k- 14:00 and dmr- 957 with depth behind that, I ask again, what d3 teams are beating the pants off of us? sure, you beat some of the lesser athletes and may have 1 maybe 2 guys who can be in the mix, but in general you are NOT competeing with the PSAC at all.
And here is the moron tracky again. This idiot is a fool Jake. Keep up the good work bro. He just thinks you should have made a Hollywood Quality video like his is. I am sure. Right tracky? Jerk!
Jake what an excellent job you did showing your determination for a sport you love. I am proud of you! It is amazing to see the footage of you running. I am out of breathe just watching. Continue to believe in yourself and the power of setting goals. YOU ROCK...GO SHIP!
Well i hope your talking about the girls, guys was sub-par. Don't disrespect the state schools just because you hate to take advantage of your own tax dollars. Idiot
never said i was from penn state.. they just ran a decent dmr at tyson.. i also said no to them, so get off the ivory, wait no, state-funded towers you sit on..
PSU is a black hole, They offered me money and I turned it down. Anywayz Sam Borchers is a pervert and gives the entire program a bad name. If I wanted to drink excessively and overtrain I might have considered it. and what D3 schools in particular?
To those under the delusion that the PSAC is the greatest conference in the land. I am from PA, I know what its like.. awful. D3 schools beat the pants off of every school in the conference yet they sit on their high horses saying they are elite in D2 which is comprised of a few no name state schools.. sorry guys
Dear Hard to Believe,
I am not sure why you are so angry, but I will remind you that I am simply expressing my opinion through as protected by the Constitution of the United States of America. I am sorry if my tone offends you, but I cannot change who I am at heart. Perhaps I am wrong in my harsh evaluation, but as I am implied, my comments are intended to be objective so making this personal is quite unnecessary and inappropriate.
"Its also simply a matter of going to college where you are forced to train harder and dropping a time that wasn't very good to begin with."
This video isnt about time he ran, it is about the time put into cutting the time down. Just because this isnt olympic qualifying time, or even national qualifying time has nothing to do with it. It is just the simple story of getting the job done. Maybe to inspire the many more people who are running around 17 min to get their time down to possibly the 15:45 range.
Hi Jake...this is your mom's cousin Suzie. Loved the video. I'll be talking it up around the other half of the Carter family (though there are significantly fewer of us on this side!) Oh, and thank your Aunt Mary for passing the word around! (I think she's working on her Chinese, just in case!)
Objective Runner needs to get his Charles Emerson Winchester head out of his Charles Emerson Winchester butt. Save the holier than thou Cape Cod garbage man. Go Jake.
"I hope you all know jakes best time before this season in a 5k was around 17:00. Dropping more then 1 min and 17 secs in one year is simply crazy."
Its also simply a matter of going to college where you are forced to train harder and dropping a time that wasn't very good to begin with.

Nice job Jake, the music is powerful, considering the other film content it's been used with in Hollywood, can conjure up some strong reactions. Setting goals is what living a fulfilled life seems to be all about; understanding the difference they can make in your future is a plus when that lesson is mastered early in the game. Congratulations and best of luck to you hope the dream is a reality.
It's always fun seeing what the YCHS Class of '07 is up to next.
Ebert and Roeper brings up something interesting: that a video which inspires is the most deserving of a prize. While I do not mean to indicate that the inspirational aspect of a film (especially a running film) is insignificant, I do believe the process of vote distribution ought to be thought of as a slightly more complex privilege. However, focusing on the aforementioned topic, I find it comical to observe the general types of people who are "inspired" by this video and those who are critical. If an individual feels compelled to follow in the footsteps of someone like the creator of this video, then by all means show it in your voting habits. Just try and realize the reason you are inspired. If you adhere to the idea that mediocrity is something to be coveted, as is probably the case with those who support the dimensions of this film, then maybe a reevaluation of priorities is in order. As for the comment regarding rhetoric, I feel it is important to recognize that without rhetoric there is no start or finish to much in this world, so cherish it.
"is as follows: train a little, music with running, train some more, music with running, completely cliche voice over thrown in. maybe i should have taped myself training one day and thrown in some music if i knew i would get this many votes"
Perhaps it is just the sheer epicness of the video?
"is as follows: train a little, music with running, train some more, music with running, completely cliche voice over thrown in. maybe i should have taped myself training one day and thrown in some music if i knew i would get this many votes"
The second round has started and you can upload a video. I hope to see yours. Right now there is a 1 and 38 chance in winning a trip to the olympics.... Not that bad huh? If yours is better then this then you will win and i will be entertained.
Clearly all of your haters don't have the votes they need and they are upset that you have such great support. Don't let them bother you, let your enemies be your step stools Jake and keep doing what you are doing! Great job :o)
What a great video stud, your mah told me that you made a video so I just had to come check it out myself. Boy was she right, you have grown up. I haven't seen you since you was about knee high. Congrats on all that there good luck your having in your running. Keep working extra hard little fella because someday you will be competing in those olympic games and won't have to win tickets in a video competition. We're so very proud of you. Talk to you later snickers
Uncle D. :)
is as follows: train a little, music with running, train some more, music with running, completely cliche voice over thrown in. maybe i should have taped myself training one day and thrown in some music if i knew i would get this many votes
I'm not sure why, seeing how it's the "Summer" olympics and I depend on you to work in the summer. But I gave you a six anyhow. Tomorrow I'll come to my senses and start voting for the competition.
Hi Jake, I am Marci Gohn's Sister- I was in their wedding when you were the ring bearer!! Your video is great- I will continue to vote for you daily. I hope our children grow up to be as dedicated at their passions as you are to running!! Great Job.
Hey Jake I knowq you want to win I know you want to win look what you've done in the past and now what your doing tell Treal I cody and Nate said hi and good luck in his hurdles. keep runnin, Stacey
If it wasn't for the enormous following gathered by being a collegiate runner and the vast networking capabilities (same goes for the GA state meet), Coast to Coast would be dominating. Especially if it was based on degrees of badassness alone.
But, I'll have to disagree with Objective runner. A running film is effective when it insires you to go out and run, this does just that. As for filmmaking skill.. the award definitely belongs to An Actual Revery (which has no shot at the moment.. unfortunately). All of this rhetoric doesn't take away from the fact that I succumbed to the networking and marketing genius of Sitler and voted a 6. 5 on Coast to Coast. 4 on An Actual Revery.
congrats! this is so cool but at the same time kinda sad that the first time ive seen u in years is on a video over the internet. good luck and lets keep in touch from here on out. love u!
I'm so proud of you Jake! Go for it! Your extended family in Maryland is behind you all the way. Shorts mmm, but I do like the music. Love you, Aunt Yvette
Completely disregarding the low bar set in this young runner's training regimen, and ignoring the utterly poor running form he displays in the video, as a work of cinematography I find this to be pretty sub-par. There is an overkill of idle time with cliche musical tunes, in combination with an overabundance of dull race footage from meets most respected runners have never paid much attention to in their lifetimes. Sure, it might be inspiring for an individual who struggles to break from mediocrity to watch a fellow victim of ineffective training habits attempt to surpass a watered-down goal, but when this video is critiqued solely for its artistic component (or lack thereof) dissatisfaction is incredibly prevalent. Sorry.
Hey Jake, Great job!!! Uncle Alex did wonder if your time would have been slightly better with a more aerodynamic hairstyle:-). We love you!! Oh, and the music, a little rough for my kids ears, but we'll let you slide.
Hey Stacey, yeah but if I didnt wear the hat oncoming cars could hit me? and Ben yes I remember you, you ran for spring grove, thanks for the compliments man..haha 1543 yeah
Hey Jake I know why you ran so fast indoors...you didn't have your orange hat on as wind resistance LOL. Great job on reaching your goal and set many more! Take care, Stacey W.
I thought the video was awesome. Not everyone is an amazing running and I get way more inspiration watching someone who may not be the best but tries harder and wants it more than anyone else. If you actually have the balls to criticize this kid you're just a **** that has nothing better to do with your life.
Hope you get to China kid!
good video man- you're lucky to have a good coach and should be proud that you're interested in the sport- looks like you have some great places to train too. And your form is fine- you run forward and align at the correct points. Nice work- look forward to the sequel- 14:59.
Rudy, you're right. I've never set and attained a goal. Thanks for putting things in perspective for me.
IMHO, if you put a near-20 minute video of yourself on this site then you are game for some constructive criticism and praise. Although I didn't watch his full vid, I did get the gist and offered both in my previous comment.
You need to strengthen your core and hip flexors. You look bent over when going uphill. Harden up the bod, dude.
Congrats on meeting your goal. Now, set a new one.
After rewatching it, I agree with a lot of the posts. This kid, while not the fastest person out there, makes up for it in ball size. He went for a goal and did it. Not everyone is cut out for the [insert your superior DI conference that is better than everyone else here]. That's why there is DII, DIII, NAIA, and even JuCo. It all comes down to passion, not talent. He enjoys this. Enough said.
Ok, so 15;46 does not qualify in a bigger conference, but so what?? He ran 17:08 last year, 15;43 is a nice jump. Not everyone runs sub 14, so why not make a video to show someone training at that different level. So "stride," whats the point in racing in the WIAC, if he can't qualify there?
"Most people should never say their goals outloud because it causes too much pressure. Good luck though."
People who don't say their goals out lout don't believe them, and thus, won't succeed. Saying goals out loud or writing them down is just like visualizing a race or meet, it can only help. As long as the goal is realistic, and this one clearly was, it's key to voice it. I must say, you are incorrect.
you need to run taller, you would be much more efficient.... plus 15:46 qualifies you for some crappy meet... way to go... try running in the WIAC where 15:46 won't even qualify
good job on your race. I was so happy to see my freshman qualify for this past wknd. You guys are still building and have a long way to go yet. It shall be exciting these next few years for you and our team. cheers mate.
-brady
hey thanks for the advice racing snail, mr. YOuwont if you wouldve watched the video you wouldve seen that I qualified and ran a 1543!Nice try though...And I agree I have been missing some epple lovin
LOL I loved the Braveheart Techno remix, I haven't heard that since the 1990's! Very cool!
You have some great scenery in your runs, but it got kind of boring watching it for so long. I think some voice-overs or something about your training would've helped rather than just watching you run.
I think you need some epple in this video... You might get it, dont listen to "you wont" dont worry about it and just go for it... Wish I was running with you guys....
I got $5 that says you won't get your time!! Your gonna run every race and be too worried about having to prove yourself to the rest of the world now. Most people should never say their goals outloud because it causes too much pressure. Good luck though
Ive been running about 80 miles a week, we are at the low point of our training right now, so somewhere in the future it will be going up to like it was for cross.
January 27, 2008 A college freshman's journey to break 15:46 in the indoor 5k.

As long as the goal is realistic, and this one clearly was, it's key to voice it. I must say, you are incorrect.

i think people are dense, if they think that hard about this vid.
also, shirtless in january? or is that from a while ago?
You have some great scenery in your runs, but it got kind of boring watching it for so long. I think some voice-overs or something about your training would've helped rather than just watching you run.
What kind of mileage have you been running?
