I simply said that 1:24 was easy, not that i could beat him, that he was a ***** or that i doubt him. Don't look into it too much.

Pifer is much faster than vaughn speed wise. They probably have different training cause they are different kinds of athletes. I would think Vaughn is more high mileage than Pifer.

Question   March 4, 2008 at 10:05am
so he runs a 1:24 for 600 meter time trial at altitude, then is still fresh for some 100 meter strides afterwards in the midst of a (unsure of amount but possibly 100 mile weeks, taken from interview) but lets just say, high mileage week. What is that worth at sea level, 1:18, 1:19???? or am I waaayyyyy off

It Was A Time Trial WORKOUT   March 4, 2008 at 10:01am
do you doubters not realize that a time trial isnt always all out, sometimes its just going out and hitting a certain pace, guarenteed pifer wasnt killing himself by any means to run that 124

I agree the majority of collegiate distance runners couldn't run that time in altitude...but most of the national contenders in the mile could run a good deal faster (in altitude).
It's understandable why he wants to move up to the 5k, the mile is just too fast

Thanks For The Info   March 4, 2008 at 12:47am
yeah, did you see how easily he ran it and at altitude. wasn't tough for him. its easy for some, but a majority of collegiate distance runners couldn't run that. i'm not talking about the majority of elite....looking at everyone, i do not agree with your statement

but hey, there's always got to be a hater somewhere. i was hoping they'd stay on letsrun, but no such luck. i hope pifer gets to take you down in a 5k this year and so we can tell you how easy it was for him

i wouldn't say thats unfair. conference meets rotate among schools so you can't not have one because there is altitude. times may be slower, but conference is usually more about winning for coaches than running fast times (unfortunately). what your suggesting, in the US, is called discrimination....
