Joanie is amazing. I've never been much of a runner, I threw the discus, but she became a hero in my eyes in 1984 after having knee surgery 6 weeks before the trials and winning the damn thing when she could have had a bye.Thank you Joanie for giving the young athletes a fantastic role model.

I met her up at the hotel and this is purely conjecture but it seems to me that she never rest on her laurels and she always wants to do better for herself and compete toe to toe with anyone. I don't think she looks back at her accomplishments but only looks forward to what she wants to do in the next race. She's a badass marathoner right now!

Have we done DNA testing to make sure she's human? Female, 52yo, 2:49:09?!?!!? Pretty sure she's made of titanium and spot-welded together. She's amazing! One of the all-time greatest sports hero's. Not just a "running hero", but one of the true greats in all of sports history.
