Kip's Career started at the 1962 Commonwealth Games, where he finished 11th. Kip would not finish 11th many more times in his career. 1965 was a huge year for Keino, he set two world record, one in the 3,000 meters and the other in the 5,000 meters. In 1968 Keino won his first Gold Medal and began a tradition of Kenyan distance running. Kip won the 1,500 meters over the American Jim Ryun and took the silver in the 5,000. The following Olympics Keino tried his hand at the steeplechase and won the gold. Kip also took silver in the 1,500 meters in 1972. |
