cocky americans bragging about how you could destroy the record now, big deal, as paddy_x says that was the eighties in ireland, they ran on their own and for free, so don't use this as an opportunity to brag, just see how some old school runners kicked ass!

without a doubt the usa should be able to get 4 milers to run alot quicker, but it has to be remembered that this was run in the eighties by a country with a small population in comparison. It was also run for charity with no money received by the athletes. great blast from the past, keep it up.

That is the UCD Belfield track in Dublin. They were the glory days! You should see that track now, it is no longer maintained and the surface is horrible, like a car park. Amazing to see the crowds, you would never see a crowd like that at any athletics event in Dublin. There is a Big meet being organized in Dublin this summer to commemorate 50 years since Herb Elliott's mile world record in Morton Stadium. Check out the website: http://www.mortonmemorial.com. As far as I know it has been given a big budget!!

Pretty sure we could easily run 15:20-15:30 in the 4xmile with Alan Webb (3:46) , Bernard Lagat (3:47), Leonel Manzano (3:35, 1500) and Chris Lukezic (3:33, 1500). There are many others in the united states that could easily meet the criteria to break that record.
