I took 4 gues at 10k 20k 30k and 35k. Drank at every water spot, water and gatorade and poured water on my head 10 times.
I did not want to hit the wall bc of lack of calories.
Solid clip dude. Did you do any out of the ordinary refueling? In other words, did you just take the race drinks on the course or did you do anything different. Just curious. ~ PAUL
When are we going to see the "Mark, the day AFTER the marathon" interview? How ya feelin' Mark? Can you walk yet? No rest for the wicked man...keep these videos coming.
The NYRR asked me to wear a GPS thing that they were testing. That is the thing that is on my arm. No Ipod for me. The crowd and the bands were really cool and all I needed.
Y O U T H E B E S T ! ! ! ! ! nice time man! if you train hard next time, can we see a 2:20? Your truly my favorite runner man! Congrats on getting the job done, continue the success!
Mark, how come the gps said your total was 2:34:58 and Ryan logged it at 2:34:59, but the official is 2:36:07? It is pretty amazing that out of 37,500 marathoners, you came in as the 88th person to cross the finish line. When looking at the official site, I can see why alot of people enter just to finish. What a great way to start year number 3 on Flotrack. (Yes, Ryan, we are looking for some extra suprises out of you too!)
Great time. Glad you fessed up about the training. I was about to call bs on that. Time to return to your roots and run Chicago instead of giving NY the props.
Great job. I am impressed, though I see you admit to training more seriously than some of us were led to believe.
Of course, you were an excellent prep and Division I collegiate runner, so maybe at age 25 we shouldn't expect you to be a slouch.
I suspect you could easily get down to 2:20 or so. But, you might have to give up some other endeavors.
Regards,
Jon
The only thing that this site is dedicated to is creating a community around our sport. This is a perfect "day of rest" from politics, especially on the two year anniversary of Flotrack.....with Mark's marathon debut....
Congrats to a very good finish time. I believe the "six days" refers to Marks verbal agreement time to run the NY Marathon. His training time was obviously more than what he revealed to flotrack fans. Good performance.
I think a 8:4ish steeple all american can open up with a 2:36 with 6 weeks of training. Go look at his logs, and its not like he got fat over the past 2 years
Congrats man, great race! I had you down to crash and burn in 3:02. 2:36 is SOLID!
The 6 days of training is BS, you've lost alot of weight recently! If you really ran 2:36 on minimal training you should get back at it seriously and for for a OT qualifier next year.
Haha, he acts humble because all his friends are olympians, but 2:36 is legit....i bet you he trained his ass off though, you can't open a 2:36 out of a can....
Guess it s true that marathoners really benefit from the cheering on the sidelines....Special thanks to Brian Mahoney for being in a critical place at the right time....You did it Mark!!! Thanks for the phone call.
It looks like the marathon is your event if what you say about your training is true. If you trained consistently for a year you'd be under 2:20 no problem.
so logically, if i only need 6 days of training for 6 minute miles, then i only need 4 days of training to revolutionize the running world and run 4 minute miles for a marathon
Ya my 2:56 prediction was way off. I thought you were going to go out 15 to 16 for the first 5k and then slow down untill you were running 7 minute miles for the rest of the race.
Hey, you were training back at the Trials! Next time don't run 27 in your buildup you d u m b a s s! A proper ten weeks and you can can do 2:20!
Seriously, very inspirational Mark. Congrats!
Can't believe so many people believed it when Mark joked about his lack of training! No way would he disrespect the marathon by training for only six days.
Big congrats to him. Knew he'd smoke it.
Not hating. My guess was soley based on the fact that he said he only trained a few weeks or 6 days? I couldn't imagine going under 3 hours with that kind of base. But I am impressed. Congrats!
dude...mark is a beast! 6 minutes miles for 6 days of training!
maybe he should of only done 5 days of training so he could run 5 minute mile pace... hahaha
dang im impressed

that is all I can even say
wow
did ANYONE think he'd go that fast?
Seriously, very inspirational Mark. Congrats!

I feel like an idiot for predicting 2:48.
maybe he should of only done 5 days of training so he could run 5 minute mile pace... hahaha
dang im impressed
