+ See More - See Less -Coach Greg Metcalf has been affiliated with the University of Washington since 1990, first as an athlete, then a coach. Coach Metcalf has been successful at both his endeavors. As an athlete Metcalf earned All-American honors and graduated with the fourth fastest steeplechase time in school history.
Metcalf's success continued when he started coaching for his alma mater in 1996. Metcalf's hard work came to fruition at the 2006 National championships in Sacramento where two of his athletes won individual crowns. Ryan Brown took the 800 meter gold and an hour later Amy Lia surprised the nation by kicking past the field to claim 1500 meter title. The success did not stop there. Washington came home from Sacramento with 19 All-American honors in 2006, which surpassed the previous record of 15 set in 2005.
Christine ran a 4:33 1600 (national 1600 record) at the CA state meet all alone.
just so all of you know... Christine won scholar athlete of the year when she graduated from high school. She is a very smart girl...
"I do not follow any special diet. I just try to eat healthy food, including a lot of vegetables.
I really love to eat hamburgers and fries, but I try to limit eating them as much as possible.
I believe that an athlete should eat whatever he or she likes, as long as the food is healthy, has sufficient carbohydrates and proteins. "

Nothing wrong with a cookie now and then.
To MikeyB, I don't believe Bekele ever said that, in fact, if I remember correctly (I can't find the article right now, but I know I've seen it) Bekele actually talks about how much he loves ice cream but has to be careful not to eat it too much or he'll get fat.
You say direct quote but give no source, so here you go, a little food for thought:
"Dibaba, whose favorite food is Enjira bread (though she does profess to liking chocolate and strawberry ice cream), has not yet decided whether she will do the double in the Osaka World Championships as she is entitled by the right of being the defending champion"

Oh well, cutting out cookies may lower my 17 plus past my prime 5k, but i gladly take the slower times.
And it seems to not be affecting Christine in any way. All in moderation.

We believe that it is also important to show the athletes off the track.

By the way, Jake is a badass!
