Keep the fire burning for Jesus Christ! Forget all the enemies of the Gospel. That's why He died. We killed Christ because of sin. Ryan loves his Maker, not just a religion. Running expresses his desire to glorify God and suffer for it. Thanks friend. The Lord reward your efforts on His behalf.

When I am driving across the Midwest trying to find a good NPR station, and I accidentally stumble on a religious station instead, I just want to switch it off asap. But I could listen to it all day if accompanied by the sight of this guy running. I don't care what inspires him. He runs; he is great. Go Ryan!

A very good runner. But he suffers from the God delusion like a lot of people. Religion was created by humans in a time when people did not know anything about science. Today people should know better. Read The God Delusion by Dawkins for some enlightment.

Bushie wushie - thanks for the comment. I agree, dialog is important. You said:

"If he wanted to raise awareness, why not focus on hunger or disease or education?"

did you go to worldvision.com/team?

World Vision's mission is to wipe out poverty in Africa and across the globe... clean water, food etc. taking care of people's basic needs first, then their spiritual needs.

That's what Ryan is doing. The greatest humanitarian/social contributions have been by people of faith.
Cox's blog a few weeks back talked about William Wilberforce - the man who was struggling between going into ministry or politics. In the end he did both - politics was his ministry. He ended slavery. just my two cents. God Bless man.

The entire purpose of a Christian life is to spread the gospel to every person, to help them understand God, Jesus Christ, and to appreciate the world he created. You will sometime appreciate people like Ryan Hall when you are standing before God accounting for your life!

I've made some negative comments about Hall's whole religious thing but I realized that if it works for him then it's fine by me. People have different things to motivate them (i.e. books, movies, songs) Hall just has God. I think God is as fictional as Quentin Cassidy but using either character can be rather poetic. I am about the biggest athiest you'll ever meet, but I really enjoyed this video. Thanks!

Eaglexc   April 10, 2008 at 7:44am
Listen, It's no secret that there was going to be some religious content in the video. He's well known for his faith and there's a cross in the corner of the screen. I'm not much of a religious person but I love this video, not because I'm attracted to God by it but because it shows what elite athletes are driven by. They all have something that pushes them and for Ryan it's his faith. I think that we all need to find something other than ourselves to focus on whether it's a goal or faith or whatever. Otherwise those miles can overwhelm you.

Josh_x   April 10, 2008 at 6:44am
I don't think Ryan was "pushing" God on anyone. You didn't have to watch the video. I am sure Ryan would thank his coaches and sponsors, but God deserves way more credit than any of them. God created him and gave him some amazing talent. No Coach should ever do that. He would have his priorities wrong if he didn't thank God first.

Struggle?   April 9, 2008 at 10:42pm
Isn't running a marathon a self inflicted struggle for nothing other than self glorification and accomplishment, and therefore have nothing to do with God... at all... kinda a stretch to relate scripture to an athletic performance. I mean you don't have Cancer... save your prayers for when you do.
