Yeah man, I've been involved in sports since I could walk. I know the difference between showboating and celebrating. Usain Bolt doesn't even shake hands after he races. That's not like "the greatest" would do. So, keep your mouth shut unless you know the whole facts okay?

dude, the fact that bolt has already run 9.69 makes the 9.77 less exciting, moaybe not a ton but honestly, how many men have broken ten seconds? how many of them weren't black? and i'm not trying to be racist or anything i just don't want there to be unequal barriers on the sport and i would find it incredibly more exciting and interesting to see a white guy break ten than to see usain run almost a tenth away from the world record at a point in time when there's three viable athletes pushing for a new world record every time they run the 100

Are you serious?!?! just cause he's white and goes under 10, it'd be one of the greatest accomplishments in the 100m ever?! that's ridiculous. Running 9.69, 9,77, etc, are the best accomplishments ever. How about all the other non-white men who have run under 10 seconds. Just cause some white guy does it would not make it the greatest accomplishment, it just means he's following in many other people's footsteps. Grow up.

Fine, I retract my statement, and I see what you mean Mark. He is a great athlete, and I guess I was talking about sportsmanship. And I agree, it's great what he's done for the sport, but I don't like him. But that doesn't meet I hate watching him run.

"Athlete" implies that he is good at a wide variety of things. He is, no doubt, the best in the world at his very narrow specialty. 'Athletes,' however, run, jump, turn, kick, throw, maneuver, make contact, etc. Until I see him toss a discus, jump a bar, and kick a ball to a teammate, I won't consider him the best 'athlete' in the world. But I'll be DAMNED if i don't watch every single step he takes, every field he destroys, and every record he breaks and re-breaks. And Mark is right about the showboating. Love him or hate him, he generates buzz. He generates notoriety. With buzz comes viewers and with viewership comes network backing and money for the sport.
I see your point but i think what they mean by the best athlete is that around the word the sport is not named track and field is named athletics so therefore he would be the best athlete as if Michael Phelps is the best swimmer

does nobody care about how close craig pickering was to 10 seconds? i'd pay wayyy more money to see the first white guy under 10 then i would to see usain run a 9.77. not to say that isn't absurdly quick but this is obviously just the beginning of his season so you know he's going to do better and he's already made 9.77 look easy. but seeing pickering under 10 would probably be one of the greatest accomplishments in the 100 meters ever

A lot of side to side movement, but you can see how powerful his transition phase is. This is where his 400m preseason training comes in to play. Except Tyson, Xavier and Wallace, there are not many 100m runners who do a lot of 400m because it hurts too much. Tyson will give him a run this year!

What does showboating have to do with the best athlete in the world? Maybe he is not the best sportsman in the world, but that has nothing to do with his athletic ability. On top of that, his showboating is exactly what this sport needs and a main reason he is filling up stadiums and his races are on ESPN.
