Wow dude . . . too bad you don't know Brandon and what a SOLID dude he is. By the by - - I don't know how my cell phone works, but it won't stop me from believing it works and using it as I understand it. Same for my TV. Same for my computer. And on a more essential level - YES - same for God. I pray that you search long enough to believe that life had better be FAR MORE than what you can see and believe in at this point. As for enlightenment; yes, we are in the most enlightened age ever. Ironically, internationally, there have been more killings, per capita, over the last 100 years than at any other time in history, including mortality from things such as plagues. Let me know when you want to explore God - might not be such a bad alternative believing in nothing at all.

I thought it was Freedom OF Reglion.

Anywho.... My bet is on McHenry being the next sub-3:40 guy. Maybe not the first time he runs the 1500m but probably the second time out. He seems to be a quick study. What was it that the Ghost of Steve Scott called him?

Seneca Lassiter was a stud in his day for sure. On the HS level he dominated VA AAA Cross Country and had success in every middle distance and distance event. Fred, you should try to spread the joy of the faith to the brother and help him understand how faith can help him instead of playing the blame game. Trendy runner, you have a good point about religion being the source of all that is evil, I have to agree it is pretty ironic.

"people like me"? you don't know me... bro. And I believe it's religion thats caused the mess of wars in the world today- not rational thinking and the use of our minds to have an original thought. Bethke is a great runner, it's to bad he doesn't give himself the credit for his hard work.
It is Bethke's rational thinking based on his faith that has him leading a lifestyle that allows him to be a successful runner. Therefore, your theory of rational thinking and using your mind for original thoughts is exactly what he is doing. The fact that he is humble before god and thanks him for leading him down this path is something you obviously can't comprehend. It is a lack in faith that leads to irrational thinking that leads to teen pregnancy, drunk driving, crime, and any other selfish act you would like to defend. All of which go against almost all religious teaching.

What's with all the god-talk in interviews lately? Can't people keep that to themselves??? Religious beliefs should be kept personal- or vocalized to an audience that cares..."

Can you not keep you non- beliefs to yourself? Obviously not.
This is a country where we have FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Just as you are aloowed to dis God, Bethke has a right to thank him and express his befiefs in how He made a difference in his life. If it were not for faith, I doubt they would be where they are today.
But, the interview wasn't about you now, was it? When you have your moment to be interviewed and have the chance to tell your story, you can tell them what we don't care to hear about. For now...you are stuck with listening to people like us.

It was reported that Mason ran on a stress fracture for the last part of his senior year in HS. He even mentioned it in his recent interview with Flotrack at the Iowa last Chance meet. I wish God's speed to the both of Bethke and McHenry.

Hey, don't bash on my guy Mason. I saw him in high school as he went to Sehome in Washington. I would say 48, 1:56, 4:15 as a junior and 1:52, 4:12, 16:02 xc 5k as a senior are better than "alright."
Yeah, that's true. I didn't mean "alright" necessarily, but as far as the level he's at right now his progress is astronomical. 1:52 is a great time in high school, but there are several people who run that every year at that level. Running 1:47 indoors your freshman year in college is rare though.

Its good to see that Brandon Bethke has found another successful program in light of Wisconsin's team's collapse. Also, Mason McHenry is ridiculously natural. His times in high school were alright, but his results in college so far suggest success comparable to Wheating (sans Olympics). His times to this point are actually better than Wheating's times at this point in his freshman year.
