Sorry for the post flood, but I just read that Deena's agent, Ray Flynn, said through a USATF statement that X-rays have confirmed that Deena has a broken right foot.

Dropped Out,
according to a report from NBC, she WAS taking care of herself, and didn't see any reason to exercise a more significant degree of caution. She said that tendons "get hyper-sensitive leading up to a marathon... [she] was icing it this week. It didn't affect how [she] was training". Obviously, it didn't feel that severe, and I'm pretty sure she would have tended to it much more carefully had she known that something like this might happen.

It's just a really unfortunate occurrence, and I hope it's not too serious.
But what exactly is it? Stress fracture? Ruptured tendon?
It's so sad to have trained as hard as she did and end up having something like this happen. It was so upsetting to see her have to stop.

Man,my stomach dropped when I saw her drop out. Deena is a class act and will rebound if she can nurse this injury. Maybe a fall marathon for redemption. Maybe it was a dropped metatarsal is what it sounds like.

if your watching right now, deena just dropped out after about three miles in. she was holding her foot. after three miles at a slow pace this tells me this was a injury she had coming into the race. why do all those miles and come to the trials and stop after three??!! taking care of your body should be most important!

I'll be cheering for her tonight as I watch the coverage on television. She is, quite simply, one of the best American athletes we have.

Go for it, Deena.
