Who cares if he did move here from another country? People always talk about how great it is to live in a free country. Part of being this free country is offering chances to EVERYONE including people who might not have these chances otherwise. Its amazing that he didn't grow up with the same opportunities as a lot of good runners and is still one of the best in the nation.

congrats futsum!! what a great race, and only a freshman...he and his family have a great and inspiring story about their immigration to america, so insults are not warranted.

his best time is not 1510, its 1502, set in october. he beat all americans drew shields and dylan sorensen both by over 15 seconds

yeah, i go to his school. he's been living here since 6th grade. oh by the way, he didnt even start running until he ran his mile sub 5 in his 7th grade gym class

the kid IS american. he has been a citizen for a few years now. his family had to flee africa in order to survive. so shut up with that "he should stay in his own country" crap!

I can understand this all - american fl attitude, but as long as college coaches recruit foreigners, these kids need to experience the reality of high level racing. That being siad, people lying about their ages in high level competition is still wrong in running and gymnastics.

Come on, just be happy for him! I mean, Dathan Ritzenhein was 8th as a sopre, then he won his Junior and Senior years... this kid may be one of our country's future runners in ten years. Don't cut him down; I'm jealous too, but it's still frickin' sweet that a freshman can place seventh at FLN.

The reality is all of these fl kids will go to college where most of the top compitition will be from other countries ( just look at NAIA ,NCAA, and junior college rosters and results ). There was alot of bru ha ha at the collegiate level regarding the term All- American. The bottom line is this: If Americans expect to keep up with other countries in international competition, we must embrace their presence.

America is the nation of opportunity. The country is comprised of immigrants, without them there is no america. to say that he is taking opportunities from others is ridiculous. There is no such thing as a generic or true american. America is Futsum's country just as much as it is anyone else's in the race, if he wasnt an american, he wouldn't have been in the race. with contributions like his, American distance running is elevated to a new level

what im trying to say is that africa always has great runners. foot locker is an american race and it should only be for ppeople that have lived in america most of there life. its not fair to the runners running agenst them.
