Looking… + See More - See Less -15 years after he earned 10 All-American honors and four NCAA championships at BYU, Ed Eyestone returned to his alma mater in 2000 as the head cross-country and assistant track and field coach. Looking back, his tenure as a Cougar reveals one of the most prestigious resumes of all-time, especially his amazing senior season. That year, Eyestone completed the triple-crown by winning the cross-county championship, the 5,000 meter indoor and the 10,000 meter outdoor. Only two other people---Gerry Lingren and Suleiman Nyambui---had a season like Eyestone?s senior year. During that same year Eyestone also set the NCAA 10,000 meter record that stood for almost 20 years until Dathan Ritzenhein broke it in 2004. After College, Eyestone continued to excel on the track; he ran the marathon in two Olympics---1988 and 1992---with a best finish of 13th. After Eyestone finished running professionally, he wanted to stay near the track and began coaching. Following three years at Weber State, Eyestone returned home to BYU and continued building on his legacy of success. Since 2000, Eyestone has coached two national champions, Josh McAdams and Josh Rohatinsky, and his BYU athletes have earned 22 All-American honors. |
