- See Less -Not everyone can say they’re the second fastest woman in American history.
The Northern native sprinkles her speech with a distinctly Midwestern accent when she speaks honestly and earnestly about her collegiate struggles with eating problems. Upon sustaining multiple injuries and surmounting her eating problem, Goucher graduated from the University of Colorado in 2001, leaving a legacy of becoming the NCAA Outdoor Champion in the 3000m and 5000m, the NCAA Cross Country Champion and a 5000m Olympic Finalist, placing eighth.
Her mighty comeback continued as she finished second in the 5K at the USATF Outdoor Championships in 2006. She set personal records on the international level and ran the World “A” Standard in the 1500m, 5000m and 1000m. Her third place finish in the 3000m at the 2006 IAFF World Cup and her 10k time ranks her the second fastest American woman of all time.
Goucher continued setting records as she reigned over the Great North Run with a time of 1:06.57, a record that earned her the title of the fastest woman’s half-marathoner of the year and set a new American best time.
The record-setting, obstacle-dominating success story moved to Oregon with her husband – American runner Adam Goucher – and continues to be coached by Alberto Salazar.
Wow!! how can so many peple be so harsh. American distance runners have made huge improvements this year. If I recall Ryan and Ritz finished exactly 10th and 11th last year at the Olympics and they didn't get railed like this. They both even stopped during the race to stretch to relieve cramps. So What gives with tearing up Kara.
To say she is nothing and overrated is pretty harsh also. Until this past spring Hall had never finished third or higher in any of his marathons and he's treated like a god in the American distance scene, and rightly so because he is pushing the envelope and taking the U.S. up a notch, just like Kara. Show some respect to the people who are actually living the dream.

Mark and Ryan, your coverage of Worlds has been wonderful; thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to the athletes.
To all those who are new to Flotrack and/or are posting negative comments:
This is a place to celebrate runners and track and field athletes, and a place to make friends and to follow those friends in competitions, interviews, workouts, etc. I think Mark and Ryan would back me up on this. This is not a place to be critical or to make inappopriate remarks. Like I wrote earlier, this is a place to celebrate our sport and its athletes. Now, those who have written that they have the right to write what they want-- that is true, but Mark and Ryan also have the right to delete your post. Let's celebrate how hard these athletes work and the great people that they are!!!
Be careful Mark, you're boarding on censorship. If someone states why they think this or that, it's their opinion, just like you have yours. If I say I love Kara and think she's amazing, that doesn't mean she is, it's just my opinion. Is someone else wrong if they say they don't like her? Everyone is guessing, and as long as it's not vicious and vindictive, I'd be very careful about alienating those who post here. If you want to favor Kara, then say so. If someone says something negative about Desi, you don't jump all over that, and I'm from Michigan. She talked about seeing stars, right? Some will define that as a load of you know what, but others will say that she's implying that it was a reason, aka excuse for her place and time. Again, you can screen my posts all you want, but I've got the right to my opinion, just as you do and everyone else who posts. The b.crew will NEVER make a negative comment towards her because they are biased. Kara, like you and me, is not above criticsim. Think about it.
David
More importantly, I think its awesome that Kara put herself up there. That's what happens when you go for broke. She raced for a medal, not for top 5. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. Looking forward to her next marathon.
David
I hope she recovers well and gives herself a chance to rest. She's worked very hard all year.
The criticism here is pretty harsh. She clearly did not make any excuses, in fact, most of the interview was about how her training was better than ever. There is no shame in that, sometimes your best is worse than other people's. However, it does seem like all that has been made of the new training ethic of American distance runners simply is not enough to overcome the genetic advantages of the African runners.
Um.....you know nothing about running, do you? After 3 marathons, she's overrated in the marathon, and it's not worth my effort to explain it to you. If you're tired of others opinions that don't agree with yours, then go elsewhere, this site doesn't need you. You're just tired of people not agreeing with YOU, RIGHT? You're not pretty sure of anything, you don't know anyone on this site, so then you are clueless, RIGHT?
She had just finished the race, Adam is there to comfort her and happens to be in the shot. He is her HUSBAND. LET IT GO!
Why is Adam in background? If Adam was racing would Kara be lurking over his shoulder?
It's a shame that when a website such as Flotrack gets more popular and has incresead traffic, it attracts an abundance of idiots.
While everyone is entitled to their opinion, some of those opinions just seem really petty and ignorant.
