I feel ya Lauren. I tore my achilles tendon in my left leg in 2005 training for my final collegiate XC Season. I couldn't run for more than 3 weeks at a time for 3 years. During 2007 I caused a stress fracture in my left shin, double whammy. I went to physical therapy in 2008 and I find out that I also have a torn acl in my left kneee, trile whammy.

I finally rehabbed everything and I was running faster and stronger than I had been in years and then I reinjured my knee. Now I am finally back running fully, 4 years after my original achilles tendon tear and I'm healthy!!!!
Those 4 years were so frustrating, running is what keeps me going in my life and I'm so glad I can continue now after all of these years of hardship.

she'll never beat goucher or flanagan cuz she went home crying on days she didn't wanna do her workout. those are the types of workouts that make you mentally tough - the ones you don't want to do.
nice story though.

I had a navicular stress fracture as well...and is it a terrible injury to rehab and come back from. I was out for 5 months before I could run again. not fun.

We all go through injuries and pains, its how we deal with them and understand how much we truly love running or not that makes the diff. in the end you can only do that through hardships. Cliche but true, enjoy every running step as if it were your first-when the last step comes you will have made the best of it.

Lauren is cool. I kinda see where you're coming from Vin's Beard, but running is a job for these folks and we all go thru tough times in our worklife where we're down and having trouble staying motivated (I do, at least!). I think she's just being honest about what she's been going thru and I appreciate it. If she was bemoaning how tough running is compared to other professions, then I'd agree with for sure. Anyway, I thought is was a very non-whiny look into life as a prof runner when things aren't going well. Thanx!

Awesome interview Lauren! Keep it up girl. You have a great attitude and story. Focus on the good stuff right now, even if it seems little. Just like you said one day at a time. Best of luck

Running as a professional is a luxury. Can't really relate to the implied hardship of being paid by Nike to rehab an injury.

Lauren's PRs are actually: (from IAAF site)
1500 Metres 4:05.62 Rieti 09/09/2007
3000 Metres 8:43.92 London (CP) 03/08/2007
5000 Metres 14:58.48 New York City, NY 31/05/2008

She is a very nice person, I love running with her when she comes home!

this is really random lol. but has anyone ran in the Nike Victory spike for XC?? cause it looked like Galen did in the NCAA 2008 XC National Meet.... its light but people said that it tears easily and strains the achilles??

anyone know??

This was closer to 11 min than 10, this title is a lie. I want my money back jk.
But I am just getting back to running after missing 3 months due to a serious of injuries and sickness. Hearing these stories really does help keep the head up, and just keep pushing forward.

Great to see Lauren's finally heading in the right direction. She's a good egg and I hope she's able to achieve everything she's capable of.

I too have been going through the same Sisyphean task of coming back from a really bad injury during this same time frame, and I'm still not out of the water, either. Just when you start to love "the process," the process really starts to suck!
Keep your head up, Lauren, you'll make it back.

wow incredible interview. Mark you were very tactful about how you presented your questions. Lauren- you answered honestly and were very insightful. I have not been able to get healthy enough to workout for about 6 months and I know how the "stormy cloud" feels. Right now I am on the road to recovery and I can only hope I take the speed bumps with as much as patience as you did. I can't wait to see you compete.

This is why I love flotrack.
