Janel Olberding, only a sophomore, had a gusty weekend. After this great race she had to battle through pain to run the 200 and anchor her school's 4x400, so this race couldn't go unmentioned...

(and yes I give an intense yell, so watch out for that)

About Rowbury: This was her 1500 debut. She ran 4:03. That's fast. She'll be just fine. She was aggressive right from the start and in great position. Her form never broke down, she just didn't have the kick at the end. She'll be fine in another couple races. I predict two more sub-4 women this year for the US - Rowbury and either Willard or Wurth-Thomas. Hell, could be 3.
About Ryan's stache - for those of you who have not been following it, YES that thing is real...real nasty!

That was Rowbury's 2009 1500 debut, and a great debut at that. She'll be back to dropping sub 62 final quarters in a race or two. Just wait and see.

I love seeing Jenny's CO jersey in that sea of Nike yellow!
And to "Poopie", below: I was wondering what happened to Rowbury, too, but then I realized she still ran like 4:03 high! I think it's just that Jenny made everybody else look like they got smoked!

That kick WAS sick. I don't know what's better: sub 14 in the 5k or sub 4 in the 1500.

P.S. Mark, recently after a run I happened go straight to a local bar where I ordered a Sam Adam's White Ale on tap. Seriously the most refreshing post-run beverage I've come across. Give it a try.

Agreed! Can't we just get the Flotrack guys to do all nationally broadcasted commentary from now on?? They mentioned Shalane ONCE in passing, didn't mention Jenny B until they saw her setting the last 100 on fire, nor did they mention the budding rivalry between Jenny B and their "stand out - featured" athlete, Anna Willard. And in the 2k event, they failed to mention the fact the Kara Goucher took podium finishes at NY & Boston Marathons recently (kinda relevant for how she'll race shorter distances now-a-day), and I don't even think they mentioned Sally Kipyego's name. Get a clue - commentators. A mere 10 minutes of reseaching before hand would have saved them from sounding like such a$$-monkeys!

I love Flotrack... Flotrack for President, 2012!!!!
Yes, they did mention Sally Kipyego and they even mentioned her being an alum of Texas Tech and about her 9 NCAA titles.

While it is a shame that the commentators were fairly ignorant. I'm so thrilled to have a track meet aired on a major broadcast station, and not at 2 in the morning. How cool is that! Its not even an Olympic year!

The only reason the texas and california state meets are better than all the other ones is because of the POPULATION of those 2 states... Those 2 states have more than 25 million people each... most other states have between 3 and 8 million people. So yea they are gonna have more fast people just based on population... I bet if you were to take and compare the percentage of athletes running fast times to the total number of athletes most states would be very even...

now any joe schmoe who watched that meet on tv is going to think that 3:59 is "close" to 4:06

I think the greatest thing about that Jenny B. video is that it shows just how stupid the NBC crew is. How can you see that she just ran 3:59 and announce the collegiate record at 4:05 and then say that she is very close to the record, brilliant broadcasting. When is USA track and field going to step in and demand some people that really know and understand what is going on in this sport. They didn't even mention Jenny until the last 50meters, but that's without even mentioning all of the other idiotic commentary. Oh well.... This again is why it is so great that flotrack does their live webcasts so we don't have to listen to these other idiots.

Tasty Race of the Week (June 8)

July 27, 2009
Jenny B is at it again....fast races, breaking records. She has been on a roll all year and this past weekend was no exception. Barringer finally raced women, and some of the best around. If you didn't get to watch the race on TV you definitely missed out, but lucky for your Jenny B's 1500 is this week's Tasty Race of the Week!

Jenny became the 3rd fastest American of all time and only the 4th US woman to break 4:00. She was about 6 seconds under the NCAA record of 4:05.

Check out Jenny's post-race interview.
