She's competitive in the U.S. but not on an international level. She does believe she can do it, but she has never shown that she can. Must be frustrating. Same thing w/steeple.

Being humbled in a World Champs final is probably a good thing. Her confidence tends to border on iness and maybe this will allow her to have a better perspective on how difficult it is to win a medal at this level.

great job Anna. you are having a tremendous year. keep working, keep fighting. you should be proud. You made the damn World finals and you were in the mix. Believe me, lots of people have noticed that you and 2 other American women made the final. Don't underestimate the magnitude of what you have accomplished. Bonus: you've got more in the tank. Rock on, Anna!

Wonderful job Anna!! It was a tough race all around. I'm excitred about the future because we had three young women in the final and they all finished in the top half. So happy for all of you.

"it wasn't quite there" ... seems to be a common link amongst american distance runners in these championships. And yet we have come a long way. Hopefully we will continue to excel and eventually get more athletes back on the podium

She sure has heart. I wanted to reach through the screen and give her a hug. Races don't always turn out how you plan, even when you've gone sub 4:00.

Anna, good luck with the rest of your summer and next year too!

Don't forget people that in the kicks at this level, everyone is running the last 200m faster. You can't compare to the national champs. Many people wonder why they can't kick like they could earlier, but off of these slower paces (and with 3 rounds) the last 200 is devastatingly difficult.

USATF should invite more middle and long distance athletes to the National Team Selection competitions. More athletes means more heats and will simulate the tough competitions that goes on in WC and OG

Nice Interview   August 23 at 4:33pm
Way to run, Anna. I figured an American would place 5th at the best, maybe 3rd if lucky. 4th 6th and 7th is not so bad. You are fast enough but need a lot more 3 & 5000 strength. Get your 5k down too.

You've done well. Absolutely, you can win a race like the WC 15, but you are not the only one who can.
The pace was too slow. This is the best of the best. The first 4 needs to go in 64.00 and it needs to be held at that pace. That is not too much to ask of the best.
So being stronger and a very good tactician on the track is of great importance. Then, you can utilise your speed better at the end, like the final 300 metres or less. Also practise "darting", a quick feet type of finish at the very end that can take your opponents by surprise whether you are passing them or holding them off.

The fact that she gets this upset after being a Worlds 1500 finalist, which used to NEVER happen to Americans, is a positive sign. She's a killer competitor. Her future's bright.
