Vigilante took over the reins at Texas with no prior head coaching experience, but… + See More - See Less -Since his start in 2000, Jason Vigilante has resurrected the University of Texas distance and cross-country program. Vigilante took over the reins at Texas with no prior head coaching experience, but he quickly earned the respect of his athletes and peers by guiding the cross-country men to a 22nd place finish in his first year. Since Vigilante took over, Texas has qualified for cross country nationals every year but one.
On the track Vigilante's athletes have rewritten the school records, almost every event from the 1000 to the 5,000 are held by his athletes. Vigilante has coached 16 different All-Americans and 1 national champion, Leonel Manzano. Vigilante was awarded the 2005 assistant coach of the year when he had the nation's highest number of student-athletes qualify for the outdoor regional championships. Jason Vigilante is currently the Head coach of cross country and Associate-Head Coach of track and field at the University of Texas. |

ps--Years ago, I heard Arthur Lydiard tell someone that he preferred coaching women, but that they were more of a challenge because they are mentally tougher and refuse to say anything when they are injured!
