I don't know what some of you are talking about that this is not a tempo run. 5 minute miles is about 30 seconds off the race pace of a 14 minute 5k. Tempo is about 25-30 seconds off your current 5k race pace, which is what these guys were doing. This can change here or there, but these PC guys were doing a tempo run. Guy quoted above, David McCarthy ran the last mile solo, not Keith. There is no Keith on the team, they were just discussing Keith Kelly during the last mile.

Comparing it to Dathan's 10 miler is way off base, because Dathan's workout was in fact, not a tempo. They even called it a "race simulation tempo", which is a way of saying pretty much race pace, but the distance is a little shorter.
justin, are you seriously saying that a ten mile run at half marathon pace is not tempo training? if ritz can hold 4:30 pace for 1:00, then yeah that is tempo. i think it is much more impressive than some guys tempoing 5 miles at 4:55 pace. Justin, do you think ritz was running at V02 max?, come on.

This was settled awhile ago check out the roster on friars.com
Plus doesn't anybody remember the women's team mostly being from NY?

"2) there are 16 men on the PC rosters, 10 of them are american."
Plus just like every American kid who applies to colleges, kids from out of the country are trying to make the best choice they can with the resources available, and best develop their talents.
So stop with these ignorant postings and realize people will always try to maximize their potential wherever they may be and wherever they are from.

who cares if they have accents and are from foreign countries...they run fast, end of story...people are just pist because these foreign kids are faster than americans so they deem it unfair. Im pretty sure europe isnt complaining about how fast derek and fernandez are running....all in all its running, go out there and run no mattter who it is, here the same thing about iona, but there american runners(sheridan weller parks) do just as well as the foreign people...motto of the post, shut up and run.

The boyz seem like they have it together. I heard a lot of the guys saying the right things. One key to staying healthy is by not stressing. Keep your self mentally sharp by staying on top of your school work, so your not stressing in November - when you'll want to be well rested, relaxed and focused. Keep doing what your doing. Moderation and consistency! - GO PC!
PS - The US wants to be the center of running period! Having "world class" runners means, recruiting the best runners you can get - no matter where their from !- All I can say is - WELCOME TO PROVIDENCE! -

More True Than...   October 2 at 5:28am
It is funny though. If this workout was with a team like Alabama, and 6 of the top 7 were Kenyan instead of being Irish/NZ/UK, I don't think there would be as many people defending it.

I can completely understand why Coach Treacy would recruit from overseas- its a huge benefit to the team, why would you pass on the opportunity if you had it?

1) accents and foreign athletes have nothing to do with anything. if you lost respect your being ignorant.

MA Runner   October 1 at 10:01am
You can tell it was tempo by just looking at how relaxed they were. They ran pretty quick and the 5miles might not have been much more than 45sec off some of those guys normal times for an 8k on a xc course but you have to factor in that, that was basically 5miles on a track considering how flat it was. If they ran that on an xc course it probably would have been 60sec slower if they ran the same effort..... im just kind of throwing 45sec and 60sec out there but the point isnt the exact times, just that they were on a really fast course so tempo effort might equate to a faster pace than normal

ya know. 4:56s are all well and good for 5-miles, but the tempo run I want to hear about that flotrack somehow missed is DATHAN RITZENHEIN'S unofficial american record 45:03 10-mile tempo he did the otherday. I understand flotrack can't be everywhere at once, but how about a phone call or something. jeez.
