I'm a distance runner and I suck at everything else, but I still thought this was very interesting to watch.
wasted video for workout wednesday.
no one cares
thanks
more like waste of a comment GRC
One more thing. Chelsea is hhhhoooooootttttttttttttttt.
If you are dependent upon watching elite distance runners' workouts for your own personal training regiment, then try this:
16 x 400 averaging 60.5 with 30 seconds rest in between.
If you successfully complete this workout, post the video as a reply to this pole vault workout.
You guys are doing the sport a service by posting ALL that you do, including this Pole Vault workout. Keep up the good work!
Do you think your events are incredibly exciting to watch? "Oh great, another 10k. Let's watch as they run an oval 25 times not caring about anything but their splits. Runner A could probably pass runner B right now and you know, compete, but that would go against the plan."
No one likes for their event to be trivialized.
Let's not forget ANYONE can be a distance runner and run a marathon, 10k, or 5k. Thousands of people do it every weekend.

Maybe you guys could see if you can do a "How it's made" thing at one of the pole factories?
Nice workout!
That being said- Chelsea Johnson is my favorite professional pole vaulter! She has a great competitive attitude and knows how to have a good time working on her craft. She is an inspiration to any young female athlete in that she is hard working and committed, but also has a healthy self image and concept.
Thanks for the inside look at everything that goes into her workouts. Through my years of vaulting I never had the feeling that I was in control of working on more than one specific aspect of the vault at a time. This video demonstrates the "next level" of pole vaulting. Thanks for getting into the details!!
Good luck Chelsea! Love Ya!
PS- I think that it is fair to include events beyond distance stuff on this site. Many track fans don't go to meet just to watch people run, but have no choice but to to watch races because they obscure the view of the vault runway!
Some more tasty grooves I see.
What muscles are the most sore on a pole vaulter post-workout? I'd imagine the back and/or the abs.
Also, is her coach mic'ed?
Sounded like Jan was mic'ed.....but I have worked with him at many of his camps and he is loud enough to not be.
Great video...and yes more than one pole vaulter/PV Coach looks at this site!
Its funny how you say your training needs help because there is MORE than enough vids/workouts/interviews on here that can help you out enough. Just be thankful there is even a website like this for all of us passionate runners to go to.
Thanks a lot Ryan!
To the haters: If they'd called it flotrackandfield.com instead, would that make it okay to show the whole sport instead of just one aspect (distance) of it?
My training needs help and using a stick to jump over another stick won't help.

Seems like a great person. But who cares about the pole vault? It's a little honorable to show some other goofy events, but we need more distance workouts. My training needs help and using a stick to jump over another stick won't help.
1) i care
2) there are plenty of sites on the internet. if you feel like you aren't getting what you need here, i urge you to find it elsewhere because i'm not a fan of negativity.
to everyone else, glad you enjoyed it. chelsea is great and her dad jan is a trip. definitely a guy you need to meet if you ever have the opportunity.
I'm not a thrower or jumper, but I still thought this workout was cool and interesting -- never knew PV was so technical. Best of luck to Chelsea.
