Weight training does have its benefits in whatever distance you choose to run. Not everyone does weight train and it won't necessarily shave off a minute or so off an elite runners time, maybe your average runner, but this will help prevent injury.

And for real, don't bash other coaches training philosophies, like lydiard, cause without his training philosophy who knows where running would be right now. Training is all trial and error, what works for one doesn't have to work for someone else, so if you want to weight train then go right ahead, if not keep the nasty comments aside.

haha, yeah lydiards guys didn't lift, but do you know who did? Seb Coe, Steve Ovett, El Gourrouj (butchered the name), gebrselassie, bekele, mottram, steve scott, Bernard Lagat (who is a Kenyan), Alan Webb, Jim Ryun, Galen Rupp, Adam Goucher, Steve Cram, Kara Gucher, Paula Radcliff, Deena Kastor, Meb Keflezighi, Ryan Hall, Dathan Ritzenhein, Sara Hall, Sally Kipyego (also a kenyan), Nick Symmonds, Eamon Coghlan, Steve Cram, Josh Cox, Dan Brown, Shelane Flanagan, Chris Lukezic, Allistair Craig, James Carny, Matt Tegenkamp, Leo Manzano, Cris Solinsky, Bob Kennedy, Todd Williams... anyways you get the point.

well firstly she's a 1500 runner so upper body strength is important. Second she isn't maxing out weight here, she's using her own body weight for most of the exercises or looks like 5-10 pound hand weights.

Maybe if she was maxing out like 250 lbs or something that would unhelpful, but this type of exercise works the heart just as much as the muscles being used and good upper body strength can be helpful in shorter distances. just take a look at any great sprinter.

nice job with the epic song/ pan to the dog at 0:52.

Is she lifting to be better at running or just to be strong? Cuz lifting won't make you better at distance running... especially upper body work. Kenyans don't do it... Lydiard's guys didn't do it.... it's unnecessary.

That video was fun...almost artistic panning to the dog's face in the beginning.

Funny.
