hey i don't think anyone should say that sprinting is better or worse than distance running. we are all track athletes. we all work really hard at what we do. besides all the other athletes (football players, baseball players, etc.) make fun of track athletes because they think that we aren't real athletes so if we aleady have to deal with their , why should we argue amongst ourselves?

So Kenny B and Haile G just spend more time running than everyone else?

...wait, no... I'm pretty sure they're hyper-talented freaks of nature.

Personally I'd love to see some multi-events workouts more than anything... those people work pretty damn hard to be good at so many things.
I have huge respect for those incredible all-around athletes.

Don't feed the trolls man. Sprinting and distance are two different things. Both have their ups and downs, but a comparison is just too fallible. Don't relate an apple to an orange.

its not just because its quicker, but its because nobody is playing games, its just all out competition 100% haulin a@@ to blaze past the competition.
there is more anticipation, adrenaline, and excitement involved. also its completely make or break in the whole race.
and fast twitch muscles are the key to every athletic endeavor except for running long distance
is bolt more famous than pre, yes. just not in america but in the world.
and if pre didnt die early he wouldnt be nearly as famous and his rebel mentality.

Sprinters Are Track And Field, its because its easier to watch a ten second race compared to a fifteen minute race. Also its easier to replay a 100m 200m race and explain all the details of it. Where as with distance race it would not be worth the time because viewers would become bored very soon if they just wanted to see quick results. But as I recall the largest grossing track and field money maker was built upon a 5k runner. Dare tell me that Bolt is more famous then Pre. Also Johnson would gladly share is expertise on distance and sprints.
God bless that we have slow twitch and fast twitch muscles working on the track and out in the field and rings. Because if we didn't this sport would be boring as hell. Any chance we will get a shot or discuss workout? Now those are some intense workouts.

sprinters also have way more technical work while distance runners just have to worry about running an even race.
but i do respect distance but lets face it, cross country, road races, marathons, those are all for distance runners. track and field is for sprinters mainly and other athletic events. the distance running isnt the main event. why do you think usain bolt is such a star compared to the fasest 5k runner

love the workout. i respect both sprints and distance but sprints are more exciting in my opinon. i mean in sprints u are seeing how fast a human can possibly run, not how fast they can run through a long distance lol. plus sprinters are more of athletes, they can play other sports cause they work out in the weightroom too. distance runners are simply distance runners.

i like watching the 1500 and 800 though, but nobody on this site can say that the US distance team has anything on the US sprint team. the sprinters bring home all the medals, and i like watching the worlds best workout.

I am a distance runner and I found this workout interesting. I may not be able to relate to it as well as I can to a distance workout but sprinting is a crucial part of track and field and its about time that a sprint workout was posted. This site seems to be catered towards distance runners and therefor the majority of workouts are distance rlated but occasionally its good that they change it up. Its stupid that people on here are fighting as we are all members of the same sport and want the best for it. Impressive run for Rodgers at USAs

THANK YOU flotrack, for taking the time to go film a sprinter's workout. It is VERY worthwhile and interesting to see what the inside of training is like. And to think that this guy is now the top 100 runner in the country (sans factoring in Gay), it is great that we saw this workout BEFORE his crown.

thank you for the dedication. I know y you may be sick of the travel from time to time, and wondering why you are filiming people when it just may be you and the subject, but your videos reach a MASS of people.
love it.

I couldn't say it better than Aaron Reeves said it. Sprinting and distance running are different, but they're both cool. Those of you who are into pointless bickering need to take it over to the letsrun.com discussion boards where you'll find lots of other people who get off on that sort of thing.

Anyway, Michael Rodgers is a really exciting new sprinter and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does this year. Thanks for the workout Flotrack.

To be quite clear Sprinting and Distance Running are two great forms of the sport. Most sprinters admires distance runner and vice versa. Most sprinters are not thugs, sprinters come from all around. Sprinters and Distance runner take a lot of time practicing their specific craft so that they can be the best.

I love the bickering here, so pointless. Sprinters don't know what distance runners go through and vice versa. As a sprinter myself, its funny seeing the distance guys on here get all rattled when a sprint workout comes up as many of you have no idea what its like to put your body through high intensity repeats at a short distance. I respect both disciplines as i am a fan of track and field, not just sprinting or distance running.

Distance = less talent based, achievment is generally a function of time spent RUNNING.

Sprinting = highly talent based, achievment is a function of fitness, one can not spend much time running, but be a superstar through football.
not to mention that the races themselves take MUCH more courage/drive/determination, when a distance runner runs a great time he falls to his knees on the track. When a sprinter runs a great time, he spends the last 20% of it celebrating.

Fact Of The Matter   June 25 at 12:24pm
distance runners seem to hate on sprinters because it is something that many football players and other stereotypical jocks could do in highschool... step on the track and think they are big and bad for running 11 in the 100 saying "track is easy"... that's how it was at my school and i hated it...

sprinters hate on distance because lets face it... if you're not somewhat knowledgable about the runners or tactics... it's hard to watch and be excited... I love watching a great 5k unfold on the track but i can see where some people take a 10 minute nap and watch the ending instead...
LOVE the sprint workouts as much as the distance and on the debate between which race can be broken down more... it's a tie... start, middle, kick, end... and if you don't think sprinters have a kick... watch the last 75 of a 200 or 400... not as long... but it's a kick

I'm picking Rodgers to win the trials.Tyson will probably not run all the rounds. But it makes no difference. The man is ready. His drive phase is stupid sick. And then the power he maintains in the acceleration phase is none like I've ever seen, except Moe Greene & Carl Lewis.9.90 in the finals.

Dude,,, you have no Idea what your talking about... In College I was a Decathlete... So I had the honor of trainig for almoast every type of event including sprints and distance running... And Sprints are way more complicated than you think,,, there are so many little things that can effect your time... Distance running is very complicated as well when it comes to stratagy and figuring out pacing and things like that... I would never talk bad about any event, because I have a lot of respect for every event because they all are challenging, and unique in their own way. When I go to a track meet I get excited about every event because I truley love track and field as a whole,,, AS SHOULD ANYONE ELSE WHO CALLS THEMSELVES A TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETE.... Dont hate on what you probably havent done!!!

There are so many more aspects to a distance race than just point and go. Lets see here for sprints there is the start, the drive phase, the maintaining period, and the line. Oh wow a whole four steps, congrats.
