#41	Jay August 18, 2007 at 10:57pm Nick and Ron were not happy about that workout. The 1:49-1:50 range was a conservative safety net target so that there would be a 90% chance he'd run faster and use it as a confidence booster. Not so. He was supposed to simulate the last 800 of a WC 1500m race and all he could do was run 26.8 off a 56.8 lap. He's looked a lot better, and faster, at the end of races at Michigan. There was NO last gear there. He used to be able to accelerate away from other runners and looked relaxed doing it. Not in that time trial. Why bring Boaz into it just to run a mediocre 1:50? I hope he just had an off night. Good luck Nick. reply

I love it. as for Willis and the last 100M, it wasn't like he went out to run as hard as he could. Coach specifically told him to try and run a 1:49. (he was one sec. off). So what? Coach was screaming relax. And if you saw him kick in the mile at Indoor Nationals in 2005, he was literally floating in his jasaris. he sh*t all over Ahmed (from arkansas)!! Point is, the man has got wheels and definitely has what it takes to make the finals. Represent, Willis!! reply

#35	Curtis August 17, 2007 at 3:14pm Ok clearly everyone is looking in to his time too much, Nick was supposed to do negative splits and run a 149-150, and he ran a 150, by no means is that the best he can, but it was what he is supposed to do, also for those to care to know, his 800m pb is 1:45. Nick Willis 800 Time Trial before 2007 World Championships

New Zealand 1500 meter runner, Nick Willis does his last workout before he heads to Osaka for the World Championships. Nick and Coach Warhurst were kind enough to let Flotrack bum around.

Bio:	As a high schooler in New Zealand, Nick became the nation's fastest prep ever running 4:01.33 in the mile. In 2002 he was 4th in the World Junior 1,500m. In 2002 he was 4th in the World Junior 1,500m. He moved to the USA to attend college at the University of Michigan. While there, Willis was part of 2 NCAA relay records (Indoor DMR and outdoor 4xMile). The DMR was also a World Record. He was twice named the Penn Relays Collegiate male athlete of the meet. At NCAAs, Nick was the 2005 Indoor mile champ, 2004 3,000m runner-up, 2005 outdoor 5,000m third-place finisher, and a member of the 2004 Distance Medly Relay championship team. In cross country, his highest NCAA finish was 18th. After college, Nick signed with Reebok, but remained in Ann Arbor to train. He qualified for the Olympics in 2004, won the 2006 Common Wealth Games, and made the finals of the 2007 World Champs, all at 1,500m. In 2008, Nick had his best year, which was capped with a 3rd place finish in the Olympic 1,500m. After the race winner was stripped of his medal for testing positive for PEDs, Willis was upgraded from bronze medalist to silver medalist. Nick also holds the New Zealand record at 1,500m with a 3:32.17 lifetime best.
