Kate O'Neill
Kate O'Neill InterviewJanuary 16, 2008 Kate O'Neill won the 2008 USATF half-marathon championship on Sunday in Houston (1:11:57). After graduating form Yale, she was a 2004 Olympian in the 10,000 meters. Injured hampered her running after the Athens Games, but she ran 2:36 in the heat last fall at the Chicago Marathon. O'Neill currently lives and trains in Mammoth Lakes, CA and is coached by Terrence Mahon.

Not only did they turn the program around during their four years, they also destroyed the Ivy League record books. During the twins Four years at Yale, Katie was the first female athlete to win the Heps 5k three straight times and Laura did the same in the 10k. Both Katie and Laura were named Outstanding Preformer at the 2003 Hep Championship, where they finished first and second in the 3,000, 5,000 and the 10,000. Both Katie and Laura earned three All-American honors their senior year; Laura finished 13th in cross, fifth in the 5k indoor, and fourth in the 10k outdoor. Katie was runner up three times her senior year in cross, the 5k indoors and the 10k outdoors. In 2004 Katie made the Olympic team in the 10k. |
