Another good run is from the Manor House down to Trout lake. THEN you get a gradual climb up to Rich Mtn... a better view in my mind though it is a toss up as far as difficulty. However, on the return trip you do have to encounter a climb of aggressive grade in the final mile and then can finish with a some flat stuff on the figure 8. A lot of great options at Moses Cone.

No way man that run is AMAZING
the field (known as "gladiator hill" on my team) is one of the most beautiful spots i have ever seen... definitely not boring man

i've been on this run when i was at an XC camp at appalachain state. it rally suck coming up but the down hill isnt as bad. the worst part is the field that is about a mile from the top. It gets SO HOT and its really boring.

If it was an easy workout maybe more than two people would have been running together at the end. Long, aerobic miles are good, but there really seemed to miss the point when everybody is running on their own.

Yeah i have ran there quite a few times and i guess if you arent used to the hills out here then 6 minute pace would be pushing it, but the workout looked pretty tough.

Can Gary make the top 5?

The run is very tough, however 5.5 miles is quite generous for the route that ohio state took to the top. App state has the luxury of doing this as a hard run three times in the fall.

dude the run is ok to manor, but after that its balls hard, the fastest I've witnessed was 30:01, and that was by a 2:17 marathoner

blow a rock, i'm sure all these guys can run 6:00 pace to the top. it's a tough run, but not unbearable. i'm no where near the caliber of some of the guys on this team and i can do that.

I don't think the video does the climb justice. I saw Robert out a couple days ago on his own running hard to the firetower and he looked completely spent near the top. Very few seem to be able to run 6:00 per mile pace to the top.

school starts in a couple days; what an awesome trip to be able to take a team on. gary has always liked having a small team; most of the times it works, but as hard as they train, I hope they're careful this year.

Is this for real?,

Zap fitness is a running camp in NC where teams go to have retreats before the season and school starts. It is a great place and time to get some good training in and just chill out. I am making a video about Zap that should be ready by Monday, so you can see what I'm talking about. Anyway when the teams are not running they are just hanging out at Zap sleeping, playing horse (basketball), playing ping pong, sleeping, throwing the baseball around (baseball) and sleeping. That is what he meant by those comments.

I thought it was a reasonable workout. Nice long aerobic stuff, getting the miles in, not running too hard.

This is the worse coaching I have ever seen. It is amazing anyone runs well under that type of coaching. Lets try to blow everybody up in every workout, that will make your team really good. Some days they actually play basketball?

sjc, Ohio State has 13 guys on the team. Hey that is nothing on Carroll College's 2005 team we had 5 guys, then 5 guys on 2006 and had to kick one off the team and now we have 10 guys on the team for the 2007 season

I think they have somewhere around 9. Coach Gary says in his interview he likes really small teams. The crazy thing about this video...it is still summer vacation for them for almost another week.

Robert Gary

Ohio State Workout

September 12, 2007
Coach Robert Gary and the Ohio State XC team headed to Blowing Rock, NC to stay at the beautiful running oasis, ZAP Fitness (Zapfitness.com). Gary and his Buckeyes ran a workout September 7th on Bass lake at Moses Cone National Park. The Buckeyes ran up hill hard for 5.5 miles, took a little break at the top to see the scenery, jogged 5.5 miles down the hill and did a flat 1500 "cool down" , as Coach Gary called it, at five min pace. All in all the team did 16 miles and headed back to ZAP for some good food and a nice siesta.
