- See Less -Steve Scott is the greatest US distance runner of all time. Scott won six US 1,500 meter crowns and four indoor mile crowns. Scott has run sub four mins in the mile 136 times; more then any other athlete in the world. Track and Field News ranked Scott # 1 in the US 10 times and 11 times they ranked him top ten in the world. Scott qualified for three Olympics but only ran in two because of the 1980 US boycott. Scott?s best finish on the world stage was second at the 1983 World championships. Scott holds multiple US records; his most famous is the 3:47.69 outdoor mile record. Scott also holds the indoor mile, 2,000 meters and 1,500 meter records. In college at UC-Irvine Scott won the NCAA 1500 as a senior.
