looks fun but it could really trash their legs and put them at risk for injury. i man all that pounding down as very steep hill is just bad for your shins, knees, IT band, and feet. especially when its on asphalt. idk its only once a year but torrence and lee are probably biomechanically efficient

Isaac, apparently you've never run downhill before. It's not like a car where you have perfectly round wheels - your quads and hips get pounded pretty hard and if you're not used to it it's hard to maintain control.

why did they do it? tradition, the feeling of running within seconds of the WR, a nice workout...why not do it?

Wow! I thought that it would have been A LOT faster than that. I mean, come on, DOWNHILL! I was thinking, like 3:30, or faster. I mean, considering that it's all downhill, and how much of a downgrade the hill had.

David Torrence among other Cal runners meet for their annual downhill mile championships in Berkeley. Torrence is last year's champ and looking to repeat.
